RE: SOTW: Porsche 924

QUALITY SOTW!
THAT FRONT ON PHOTO WITH THE HEADLIGHTS UP PUTS IT UP THERE WITH THE COOLEST OF THE COOL.
NOT TOO KEEN ON THE ADVERT THOUGH, BUT IT WOULD APPEAR AN HONEST ENOUGH CAR. FOR UNDER A GRAND THOUGH ITS A STEAL AND WOULD SURELY BE BRILLIANT FOR THE UPCOMING TRACKDAY SEASON. STRIP IT OUT AND SELL THE NON ESSENTIAL PARTS FOR A BIT OF CASH, AND THEN SPEND THE MONEY ON A TRIP TO THE 'RING...

I've got one of these
SERIOUSLY under-rated car. Like said here before - tell me another rwd 2.0 sports car you can buy for a grand? Escort RS2000 isn't a bad comparison I'd say... Parts aren't that expensive - I bought a spare engine off ebay for £30. Because it's a VW collaboration there are very few Porsche specific parts. The ignition module is expensive and rare but other than that it's a good old girl.
I'd got for a 84/85 model to be honest. In lux spec with sunroof and Turbo style wheels
You can't go wrong

never mind all this 'not a proper porsche' business, what RWD coupe from 70s/early 80s can you get in good useable condition for a grand? Capri? doubt it. MGBGT? maybe a very tatty one. Manta? doubt it. Anything Japanese? no chance
I ran an 80's RX7 for a year with no problems, it cost me £600.I miss that car so much. Brave decision to buy it though, a 924 would be a safer option.

Was it here or in PPC I read that these are a lot less rot prone than 944s?
They're the same body shell, just the front wings and rear arches are wider on the 944. The capacity to rot is the same. A lot better than many 80's cars but plenty of cars with rot in them now. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
