Am I being pedantic?
Discussion
I've just yesterday picked up a second hand tyre from the parcel depot that I bought off ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320872143643?ssPageName=...
However, the tyre has had a puncture repair, the outer rubber still has a hole in it.
If this was described, or even if the ad stated Refurbished instead of used. (This would have been more accurate IMO) I wouldn't have bid.
Consequently I feel as if this has been slightly mis-sold.

My point is, it is not as described!
If it was, it would read refurbished. I don't want it because it looks like a bad job.
To those that just want to hurl insults, I have implied I may be a bit pedantic about this through the tittle.
Yes or no will do!
Is what do you expect for the money a reasonable argument? This is ebay, where you set your maximum bid...

sellers response:
Dear joescunningplan1,
The condition set as reconditioned, we sell remanufactured products, so that is the default setting for all our listings, so apologies for that, Can I ask what difference the puncture repair makes to the tyre anyway? What exactly did you expect a "remanufactured" tyre to be?
You and I both know that it is not actually worth the postage for us to collect this or send it back so you have us in a tight spot. I will issue a full refund upon receipt of the tyre.
Thanks
Allan
However, nowhere on the auction does it state the tyre is remanufactured.
If you bought a second hand turbo off this guy, and it was previously damaged beyond use, but repaired. You'd want to know right? Tyres could cause a much bigger problem if they failed.
Refurbished or reconditioned usually means returned to an as-new state. This has had a puncture repair, is described as "used" which fits the bill perfectly.
The seller seems to be an OK guy, and I honestly think you're being a bit of an arse about it - arguing semantics when in reality you expect brand new with no defects for about 1/6th of the price of a new tyre.

i'd expect the listing to say the tyre had been repaired at the very least, it's not as though it's difficult for them to spot, and what does he mean by remanufactured? i thought that applied to remoulds not part worns
Well, in his other listing for turbo's alot of them state remanufactured. This isn't stated on the tyre auction, and by his apology it looks as if perhaps he meant too.
A reasonable response though, and I will return the tyre for my refund!

I feel sorry for the seller tbh, he shouldn't have to refund it - essentially giving you a "free" tyre.
With all the spelling pedants on here, I'm surprised most don't agree with me.The seller seems to be an OK guy, and I honestly think you're being a bit of an arse about it - arguing semantics when in reality you expect brand new with no defects for about 1/6th of the price of a new tyre.

I will admit I struggle to agree with you on this point though, used implies it is simply used and in working condition.
Refurbished implies it once failed and has since been repaired to make it useable.
Which is more accurate here?
I know this is on a different scale, but if you bought a car that was damaged to the point of being illegal, but subsequently repaired. You'd want to know about it right?
Like the tyre, I suspect there would be an increased risk of it failing again.
Yes, I am a bit bored today...
Order a cheap second hand tyre and you can't be sure what you will get. Same as going to one of these back street places that offer part-worns.
Under the condition section it states:
If you are fussy I can understand why it bothers you - but the answer is buy NEW instead. Don't buy cheap second hand and expect the same product and service.

If the tyre is in good working order and legal tread I think you can't complain too much. What do you want the seller to do, write a 1000 essay on the condition of each block of tread in the tyre? Buy cheap, buy twice. How much would a new one cost btw ?
They're not the best tyre in the world but I bet, in that size, they'll be over £100.Edited by retrorider on Sunday 1st April 16:29
