He's just going to look like he's borrowing his mum's car.

In fact, probably best to just be a named driver on your mum's policy. No insurance company is going to argue that your mum isn't the main driver.
No because that's called fronting, which is illegal..

Hey Guys

I'm going to be picking up a 12 Plate Mercedes SLK next week.
Why?

No help on the insurance I know, but it may encourage you to think before actually becoming totally committed to buying. One thing I would say about the insurance is: if you have to concern yourself or need to consider taking a VE of 2.5-5k then you really got to have a good chat with yourself about buying the car in the first place. Good luck either way.

The amount if excess would be more relevant if you gave us an idea of the premium on both policies. All well and good talking about 500 here and 2500 there but if we don't know where the ground we have no idea.

Go for the £5000 excess, paying an extra £500 for the £2500 excess is like having insurance on your insurance. Also, bear in mind you won't crash it....it's a girls car....my 53 year old mum has one...but will someone ever crash into you, if so, is the excess still payable?

He's not very quick for someone who can afford a 12 plate Mercedes SLK at just 19. hehe

Remember he said "I'm going to be picking up ..."

He didn't say he was going to own it. Could be that the car is for one of his parents and he's just being added to their insurance. Which would make a bit more sense.

Ah now chaps...as seen on the other post of a few days back (Tarthur was it?), the doubters can get a good selection of the humblest pie to eat after the pics come out...maybe! wink Wish I could've afforded a new Merc SLK when I was 19... I'd have bought a 12 month old Boxster or Chimaera/Griffith instead!! ;-)

I am currently not doubting he has bought the car and is picking it up soon. I stuck up for him in the other thread.

But another one, really, I mean come on! Hey guys, I'm 19 with a 12 plate Merc....

And you have to question the sanity of someone who was apparently torn between a Porsche Cayman and a DERV SLK, and decided to get the Merc...

Go for it.
That way, when you write it off, you can come on here and ask the best way to get a personal loan for a 19 year old to pay his insurance excess and then you can ask about the best £25k car for a 19 year old with one crash.. wink

I'm with you on this now Robb. Defended the OP on "the other thread" as you did but have decided now he deserves all of the comments he's getting.

I'm now assuming the OP is a PH regular who has created a second account just to wind up the masses.

Either that or he's a fking idiot who needs to realise how much of a cock he's making himslef look.

Hey guys, this topic seems similar to my idea for a topic, so I will post my question in here.

I'm 19, my dad is getting a new SLK tomorrow. I would like to drive it but the insurance is too expensive and daddy says he won't pay. Did I mention I'm 19? Anyway, I will take a photo of some custard on his car. I'm 19. My dad is getting a new SLK. My question is, how many people on PH can I let know that I'm 19 and my dad is getting a new SLK tomorrow?
