No idea how this happened - maybe pothole damage looking at the accompanying graze on the alloy?? I now have a cut in the sidewall of the tyre on our RRS - it doesn't look too deep. Is the tyre still OK or is it dangerous?

Yeh that'll be fine, any doubt then replace.

That bit of the tyre is designed as a big fat lump of rubber so it doesn't destroy the tyre when you kerb it. It does look quite deep but it's difficult to say whether it's too deep or not.

Is any of the tyres carcass exposed? Is not then should be fine, though keep an eye for any bulges developing.

I would just trim that with a Stanley knife to tidy it up, and at the same time check how deep the tear goes.

That's fine, just the rim protector doing it's job.

I trimmed the rubber off and it really isn't deep at all.
