What can we do to improve courtesy on the roads?
Discussion
There's no doubt about it. Most of the british public are well naffed off just now and its being seen in people's driving. We've seen it last week in the rage caused at the pumps and we see it more often with tailgating, cutting up and people refusing to acknowledge other drivers even exist. This morning I waited patiently on two occasions for people to pass on roads where there were cars parked down both sides and they didnt even seem to know I was there. What can we do about this? I mean there are penalty points for bad driving, but do we need a national campaign to reward friendly drivers?! A "no rage" bonus perhaps?
When I first started driving in the UK I was impressed by the "after you" attitude displayed by so many drivers. In the years since, "after you" seems to have changed into "after me".
What can we do?
Be courteous. It's catching. Unfortunately so is selfishness and there's a lot of ground to make up.

Many of the particularly irritating habits are simply a lack of education. Most people don't care about their driving once they've passed the test, and forget some of the subtleties.
The govt used to sponsor TV adverts which raised awareness of "Don't dazzle...etc" and "Clunk Click" long before it was a legal requirement. This sort of thing could be re-introduced to good effect. In particular:
1. Lane discipline, particularly at roundabouts
2. Indicators, particularly at roundabouts
2a.Indicators signal your intent not wishful thinking. They do not give you the right, etc...
3. Rear foglights, when to use and when NOT to use
4. Front foglights - not as cool as you think you are Mr Chav driver with sidelights and foglights
5. The petrol pumps will easily reach BOTH sides of the car
6. If it's raining, put your lights on
7. Overtaking is OK in some situations
8. Tailgating on the motorway will get you shot, or at least a night in the cells (wishful thinking)
9. Merge-in-turn
10.There are probably a 100 more.

Nobody teaches toad etiquette these days. A default after you attitude is just ad bad as a default after me attitude. Teach rights of way (car travelling uphill etc) and life would be much better.
WTF is that? Is it where you ask if your dinner partner wants the last frog's leg?Negative Creep said:

I hope people don't realise this. It means I'll get my fuel even quicker whilst idiots wait for a pump on the correct sideI'm not faffing about putting fuel in from the far side pump. How is that a discourtesy? I sit there, happy with my decision, and put my fuel in at the due time. This has nothing to do with courtesy, and as regards all those people who gain time over me because they aren't so bothered about the faff, I'll be right there in hell behind you, 0.75 seconds later.

It makes my blood boil when I let someone out and I don't receive any kind of thanks.
The worst age group for it is the elderly TBH!
And as for the Petrol Pumps, not all of them reach both sides, and the ones that do, don't tend to fit in right as they are at a weird angle. Hey, maybe it's just my car then.
