Having seen the one where somebody claims "I'm sure **everybody** on Pistonheads has done 150mph on the public road" or words to that effect (despite the fact that every bugger on Pistonheads appears to own an MX5!!), made me think how many absurd claims there actually are.

I'm a petrolhead through and through, yet I've never had a car that will even get close to 150mph - same for most of my friends.

The only ones I know of who wouldn't think twice about doing those speeds are mates with superbikes, who can get to 150+ in a couple of seconds on a junction free road, without worrying about spending 6 months in prison!

Or perhaps the comment where somebody claimed a 1.4 car just wasn't capable of cruising at motorway speeds (which again is complete bks, our Fiesta is a lot nicer at 70-85mph than my Elise!!).

So yeah - what's the daftest car related comment you've seen on here, where you can't actually work out whether people are being serious or not, or just trolling?

The great thing about this is that as time wears on and fuel prices creep up, he's saving more and more weight.

The advice given to a poster who had put a couple of hundred millilitres of the (slightly) wrong grade of oil in his engine :

"Change the oil and filter, run it for a few miles, then do another oil and filter change immediately after just to be sure"
Brilliant! smile

To the OP - that number of Leptons is easily achievable on the right road at the right time of day / night! In fact a fair few more - but you do need a reasonably fast car to ensure it's just a quick squirt ...

I must've missed that one ... Do you have a link?
I've searched and can't find it frown

It was back in the D*kic saga and the basic gist was that a PH'er who really wanted to be D*kic's friend so he could be associated with such a wonderfully rich international playboy/car owner, so he put up a post supporting him.

It was in the thread where the troll D*kic was finally being called out for all the stories (think this was shortly before d*kic's 'death') and the post was the single most sycophantic cringe worthy ass kissing I have ever read... things like "I aspire to be like you", "everyone is jealous of your success", "when I grow up I want to be like you" etc.

Flasher (99% sure it was Flasher) responded with the above and then destroyed the post line by line in such a bloody funny way. Add to this that the Troll was exposed a very short while later...

That's a moot point really - you'll note my response to it yesterday or whenever was equally daft.

It was just an example - and you can see from the following comments that some people do actually believe it anyway.

Once many moons ago some chavs from a Vauxhall Nova forum came over here and laughed at how TVRs were only V8s and their Novas were 16V.... they didnt understand the difference between engine configuration and valves per cylinder...

Even my modest 9-3 Aero is booked at 149mph flat out iirc so with some minor fettling such as a remap 150+ is achievable.
Have you done 149mph?

In Germany, obviously...

In the UK, it's a mixture of the two things IMO. If your car tops out at 155mph, for instance, it takes quite a while to get there. You need a fking long road with no junctions or potential for police to be hiding by the side of the road.

I'm not saying PHers are a law abiding bunch when it comes to mway speed limits: I just think there's a massive difference between doing, say, 120mph and 150mph.

The former you'll get a bloody big fine and a ban, the latter you may well end up getting raped in prison!!!

But, and this is why I still believe the majority haven't seen 150mph+: 120 or 130mph is easy to get to **quickly**, but you either need a rapid car or pretty big balls to spend 5 minutes and x miles watching the clock tick those final 10mph or so...

I'd expect around 90% of PH to have been in a car on a UK public road at 150+. Its not very difficult and it doesn't require extreme conditions.

Cars with over 300hp don't tend to creep to 150 over miles and miles, you could to 150 and back to the speed limit in a single motorway junction quite easily.

I am guessing your not talking about 21 and 21a on the M25 hehe

Also I suspect I am in the 10% then, as I have never done 150mph on the UK roads as either the driver or the passanger.

Was that different to the bloke who was trying to justify 6 months or so off work on full pay because of a hurty finger?

Yup. Something like a 996 C4 does 155 pretty easily - with a gear to go!

Not everybody lives in or is restricted to a crappy country where you can't buy petrol and there are stupidly low speed limits.

You aren't trolling are you?

I liked the guy who could feel the individual tread blocks in his tyres. Who, if I recall correctly, was the same guy that thought everyone who crashed in snow/ice was driving like an idiot/couldn't drive. Next week he's posting about smashing a wheel on a curb - but that's only because it was oily ice smile

This was the quote in question:

"It only carries 1 person, Me. It has no extra weight in the car, all glove compartments, cubby holes and the boot is empty. The rear exhaust may or may not add power. It has only ever run on Optimax, I know you get more boost out if this fuel on bigger engined cars but every little helps. The tyres are always inflated to 38 PSI to give extra grip and less tyre slouch. Often I put the rear seats flat, this reduces weight. (Like why you crawl flat across a frozen pond so as not to break the ice). I regularly drive with around £10 of fuel, again weight saving, and often I use engine cleaner in the fuel load to remove debris from the fuel injectors. The car is always clean improving aerodynamic progress. I have timed the 0 - 60 at 9.3 seconds, and this shaves a couple of seconds off the standard time. Hope this answers your question."

The actual thread isn't around anymore from what I can tell:
