He's getting in the drivers seat, not the back seat.

Folks, can we leave the ridiculous opinions and moaning at the door, he's asking for straight forward advice, not your opinion on whether the mobility element of DLA should be awarded/used for nicer cars.

That said if it was me, I think I'd be looking more along the comfort lines, rather then sport. The best thing the OP could do is go and sit in them, as of the seats are no good for his back, then it doesn't matter how good the rest of the car is.

ETA - Point taken.

The "government" contribution does not vary, no matter what car is chosen. It's £59 p/w ..

Now, can we move on and actually help the OP out..

I noticed people went straight into a tangent about the cost to the taxpayer of Motability yet apparently no one else saw 'parking sensors (eyesight)' and thought "wait, what, why are you driving?"

Both those cars have massive A and C pillars too...regardless of "happily helping the OP out" it's also both interesting and caring to discuss whether these two cars are actually 'right'

I have little issue with the idea of mobility benefits and hire purchase vai the government or however it's best described...

I don't have an issue with the OP looking for something more stylish/bigger than his last Mini, IMO both the Sirocco and the Astra are quite handsome.

I do have a worry that with the health issues the OP states, that either of these cars is 'right'

You see, now I'm trying to think of an alternative....and there aren't any really...any handsome modern, 3 door hatch/coupe has massive A and C pillars...
Perhaps an open top?

Why would the tax payer need to pay for such cars? Surely cheap and reliable is the way to go?
Run along and do some reading on a subject before getting all daily mail about a topic you clearly know nothing about. That's a good chap.

I don't really care about what people do with their entitlements. All I know is I've just bought an ex-motability car, they're probably the best cars on the second hand market.

Op - try a Focus, the one I've bought has amazing seats, I suffer from back pains, and my word these seats are nice! The Titanium is top spec with parking sensors and aids making it really easy to get about in.

Hope that helps, and wish you all the best with your search.

Maybe night time or trouble turning round but equally the car could be being driven by the OP's wife, to keep him mobile.

On a more serious note, the Volvo C30 is similar to the cars mentioned in style but has Volvo seats which means they will be as comfortable as car seats can be.

Oh and why is this thread in the lounge? Are the mods all snowed in?

As far as I remember any car you buy will automatically have parking sensors fitted at no extra cost, also they will require it to be in a metallic colour as that's better for the resale value.

I've got the new astra(2L sri diesel) 5 door, very nice and easy to get in and out of with my lanky frame and not very bendy legs smile

You haven't got a fking clue have you.

Do you know anything about the Motability scheme?

Can you explain to me who funds the scheme and how the cost of the scheme to the tax payer varies based on someone who receives a higher rate DLA payment and has no car, someone with HR DLA who takes a basic Fiesta and someone who uses the scheme to fund a RR Evoque.

I'll go and get a cushion.

If you get the answer right I'll bake you a special cookie.

With regards the VX, I believe they do an orthopaedic (sp?) type seat option in the standard Astra, not sure if it's available in the GTC but maybe worth considering.

I've driven a Scirocco as a lad at work has one as his company car, they're pretty decent (yes they are a bit of a pig to get in and out of in tight parking spaces though). Good sized boot with poor access and two reasonable rear seat with poor access and restricted head room. Front seats comfy and plenty roomy though.

I looked at the Astra GTC as a company car, and TBH preferred it. Some nice details and the boot have better (but still not great) access and the rear seats are a good bit more roomy.

If your looking at the Astra GTC then it could be worth looking at speccing it with the additional Seat comfort pack 1 (Driver’s seat with six-way manual adjustment and four-way electrical lumbar adjustment) at £170.

But as has been said, get a good seat in both cars.
