I haven't read a bad review in the press for the Evoque. It seems to deliver on all fronts for the purposes it was intended to carry out. Just because it's 4x4 flavour of the month doesn't make it a bad buy. An early adopter would find quite the opposite most likely when it's time to move on in a couple or three years.

would be interesting to see figures on 2WD vs 4WD sales...

19"-20" alloy wheel'd 2WD mini-SUV...you can see how the fashion label sticks...

Like buying a FWD mini-supercar with a 1.2 NA diesel....sort of...

Top spec Freelander 2 is the HSE, which has a base price of £33k.

My car ....£35k....
I'm curious then, why other than looks (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, that's your choice) would you pick a more expensive, slightly smaller, probably not as good in the rough stuff, product from the same manufacturer?

I'm genuinely curious as I personally love the FL2 in HSE spec, it's lovely inside and is very well specified, I can't think of it wanting for anything - why is a similarly specified Evoque so much more expensive, is it because fashion items usually are more expensive due to demand and the "must-have" factor? ( wink I'll go get my flame suit on)

Good point, although the front light set up is different I can certainly see the comparison

I think it looks like an oversized super mini, not much in common with any serious off roader and lets be fair you would be really upset if you messed up those looks by bashing about off road.

erm so how is a Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, hell even a Disco 4 any different? Or for that matter a Cayenne, Touqreg or any other modern SUV?

Rubbish, how can you accuse something of being a "pure fashion" object and then say merit and usability are irrelevant?

Stupid statement IMO.

I was of the opinion that the Evoque was a far more luxurios and comfortable car than the FL2 and a lot better to drive also? Isn't that why it's classed as a RR rather than an LR? I guarantee it will hold it's value a lot better also, at least for the next 2/3 years.

And it's a lot better looking smile

Because they don't look like oversized superminis?

It's a Range Rover so they can charge more money for it.

I guess by the same measure, why would anyone pick a Range Rover over a Range Rover Sport? For the same spec the Range Rover is a lot more money.

Taking it a step further, why you even buy a Range Rover Sport when you could have an equally specced Disco4 for less money again?

Or why would anyone pay extra to get a BMW 335i over a 135i?

If you can figure the answer out for these, I'm sure you'll find it suits as an answer to your question too. smile

I can easily figure them out, but they don't suit as an answer to my question.

The 335i is much bigger than the 135i.

The Range Rover is bigger than the Range Rover Sport, and both are more luxurious inside than the Disco4.

The FL2 is bigger than the more expensive Evoque, is it much more luxurious inside - I don't know, that's why I asked the question, if you know it to be the case why don't you say so as your previous response really doesn't make sense.

Just been into my local Land Rover dealer to get a new battery for my RRS and they had a couple of Evoques there, so I had a quick look around. I think it's a great looking car, but perhaps not enough room in the back to carry stuff around that I do (which is the main reason I got my RRS in the first place).
Hope they sell lots of them though, it's good for British jobs at the end of the day.

How is it so damned hard for people to realise that everyone has their own likes and dislikes and it's VERY good business sense to cater for that.

How is it too many posters here cannot grasp that other people have different priorities when it comes to cars - you'd think having an interest in cars would make that EASIER to grasp and not harder.

At times this place feels like the 10-year-old bedroom wall poster argument club - my poster is nicer than your poster and his poster makes him GHEY!

Grow up ladies...

I guess the age of the model could have something to do with it.

I also subscribe to the "minimum criteria" viewpoint - if an Evoque meets/surpasses my minimum criteria and is roughly the same price as something else that also meets/surpasses my minimum criteria (FL2) then I'd choose based on which I preferred to sit in/drive/whatever soft secondary criteria I felt like. If the extra space of the FL2 is that important then I'd suggest the Evoque didn't really meet my minimum criteria.

The argument that the FL2 being bigger and therefore better value hinges on the buyer valuing the extra space. Not everyone does.

I think you're getting fact confused with opinion.

Theres an awful lot of people on this thread taking the view that someone's dislike of something is wrong, are the LR owner's club in today?
