For Sale 1 lady owner for the last 48 years 576,000miles
Discussion
Hats off to her for owning that car for 48 years. I love these sort of stories and would love the idea of buying 1 car new and keeping it for a lifetime. I wonder if she has FSH? Would be interesting to see how much she spent over that time on maintanence, you seem to get alot of people who own a BMW for 10-20years spending as much on the up-keep as they did on the car.
It shames people who say 'oh my peugeot has reached 80,000miles, it needs to be changed' and those who run their engine into the ground at similar mileage.

I have just acquired a 1998 one lady owner BMW 840 Sport with just 30,000 miles on the clock I bought it direct from the owner and the way she talked about the car was a pleasure and so interesting to here she was in her mid 70's And a real car enthuast only selling the car because she was emigrating to LA and her son's had bought her a similar car out there....! I think theres a few lady PH's out there.....!It shames people who say 'oh my peugeot has reached 80,000miles, it needs to be changed' and those who run their engine into the ground at similar mileage.
What a fantastic story
For some reason I have always been interested in cars that have achieved incredibly high mileages and been owned for many years.
According to the article, she records the mileage at each fill up so that she can work out her fuel consumption!
I would love to buy a brand new car and keep it for as long as I possibly can, one day, partially to prove that cars will last a very long time if looked after properly

If that had the old ford straight 6, those things were indestructible. Not much hp but a lot of torque. I have 4 friends with those in old trucks with mid 300,000 miles on them and the only things any of them did to the engine itself were have carbs rebuilt, and replace valve cover and exhaust gaskets. They only get 12-13 mpg out of them no matter how hard or easy they drive them, but they do keep going.

I've just had a MY12 Nissan GTR delivered. Makes me want to keep it until it literally won't drive any further. I feel lucky to even have access to the car, let alone owning it so i'll be driving it for as long as I possibly can too.
I'd love to see the bills for 517k miles in a GTR. Might be cheaper to buy Nissan outright.Pet Troll said:
Anyone else notice the sign in the car window says it has done 657,000 miles rather than 576,000 miles reported in the article. I wonder which is correct?
Possibly a case of 'current done xxx,xxx miles, but is still a daily driver to the other side of america and back' As of next week I've owned my Ford Capri for 20 years. Just another 28 to go - that'll make me....old, but probably still here.
Agree it shows you don't need to keep changing your car, especially if you're not a PH type and your car is just a means of getting from one place to another rather than an interest too.
My mother used to change her Rover for an identical one every 2 years at great expense, I never understood why, she only went to work round the corner in it, whereas my old Capri roared up and down the motorway doing big distances for years and never broke. Still gets used a fair bit although I have a day to day TDi shed now.
