Yes but the Transit is probably a better handling, more fun drive than the Cherokee :-)

Also a Transit would be a lot lighter than one of these.
This is a much better idea for a Ring lap. Might try and beat it it in mine.

Oh lordy, the prejudice against 4WD is large again here..

It really is quite sad.

A car that would normally be seen running a dull, boring diesel engine is instead given the joy of a big, lairy V8. Sounds lovely, goes well.

And yet the PH intellectuals with their collective heads up their arses can only criticise it.

Any manufacturer that dares to offer a lairy V8 option over a slow diesel or pretend-to-be-green bks hybrid, deserves applause and congratulations in my book.

Bravo to Jeep for the Grand Cherokee.

Bravo to having the balls to stick up two fingers and sticking a bloody big V8 in it.

It is a marvellous car.

Celebrate it.

If we all end up in co2 restricted hybrids, attitudes like some of the ones shown here will have been party responsible.

Oh and there is a bloody good reason why Jeeps are worth considering over Land Rovers. They are more reliable.

Agreed. What a complete waste of...fuel! And PH should be at least a little shamed for even bothering to report on it. At least the transit drive was done with the intention of eeking some humour out of it.

The new Grand Cherokee aint such a bad brute actually, OK its no RR thats for sure, but then a well spec'ed 3.0D can be had for mid £30K. Its actually very well finished inside and probably as big an interior space you can get this side of a Volvo V70. I wanted wifey to get one, she loved the way it drove but it was just too big for her. I agree the Range is the king of the hill, but most people dont have £50k plus to spend and when you consider that this Jeep is larger internally then the Evoke it seems pretty good value..

I would take the Jeep over the BMW for one thing only, the Hemi under the bonnet! They make such a brilliant sound on full chat!

Couldn't have said it better. Why buy anything else? I can't understand why anyone would have a pretend 4x4 such as an X5 or X6 over a Rangie.
Price? FFRR is lot more expensive than same spec X5/ML/Q7... And offers less space inside, too.

IF I trailered the TVR to a track day with the Jeep (as I do), and IF I'd paid my money for a track day (as I do), and IF the TVR broke down (as it sometimes does), then in the wet/damp at least I'd take the GC round for a hurl instead smile Surprisingly quick off the line and as long as you're smooth on the steering there's a surprising amount of grip there. Not sure how long the brakes would last though as it's a heavy beast to stop.

Have to disagee. I wanted a 4x4 that was relatively capable (really just for getting up to the hills in the winter) and towing - don't need jungle/desert-crossing capabilities. I wanted a big V8. I wanted something pretty robust (and my wife's last Jeep was 100% bulletproof at an atronomical mileage with not much more than just oil changes). Enter 5.7 Hemi GC smile Runs well, rides well and sounds rather nice too. I really would have liked to go for an SRT but it doesn't tow frown

I'm sure RR's are immensely capable, but they've never really had any appeal to me whatsoever; quite the opposite. Excluding the early ones (and newer ones covered in mud) there's a bling/Chelsea tractor image I just can't see past. Just me I guess, but I'll stick with a Hemi Jeep.

I certainly took my Range Rover Sport round the Ring, and that's only a TDV6.

I'd probably have fun in an SRT Cherokee smile

Jeez, it's the hot model of a 4x4, why not chuck it round the ring to see what it can do? In fact, why chuck any car round the ring, unless it's a track car?!

I saw this as they did it because they could. Driving powerful cars quickly is surely the point, but then again, PH is a strange place...

Interesting that they plumped for a roll cage, harnesses and a full race suit - doesn't she normally go round in shirtsleeves? Extra risk of fiery death in the Jeep or was it a bit more breathed on than they would like us to think?

rolleyes

English ignorance/arrogance at its best again I see. Jeep produced 2 SUV's before the Range Rover. Even Ford got there ahead of Land Rover with the Bronco. The Range Rover is the copy and the Jeep the template it was based on.

The Jeep grand Cherokee (none SRT version) is a very good off road SUV, one of the few that is actually designed with off roading in mind and capable of it, and very popular here in North America. The mechanicals are also virtually bullet proof, ive seen plenty running sweetly with 400k Km's on the clock.
