SuperCars on the Motorway

We've all seen them. Some supercar in the motorway, being driven at 67mph in the centre or inside lane. With me in the outside lane at Mach1 in a car I'm to embarressed to mention. The question is, why do they bother?

Because it's a motorway and therefore not the last bastion of twisty driving heaven, therefore not particularly worth caning it, and lets be honest, if you can afford a supercar you are probably the sort of person who doesn't have to rush anywhere.

You've got to admit though, when a supercar does go hooning past you (Probably stolen..) it does make you smile that it's getting used properly

There is so much more to driving than speed. What exectly does screaming along a motorway achieve?

What you should be asking yourself instead is why the nobs who drive at breakneck speed in suicide traps don't go out and buy something decent? And what exactly are they trying to prove or make up for?

Reasons for slower progress on motorways in something expensive -
you get no thrilling feedback until 150 plus so why not pick a speed you're happy with;
the paint takes a hammering at higher speed;
the fuel consumption is exponentially much higher the faster you go in a big-engined car
people think "what a nob" because they are envious
first target of a mobile scamera van
if anything breaks, it will cost more than your car to replace.

is it just me or does anybody else dislike overtaking supercars ? i really do not understand why i do this and cannot rationalise it . just feels a bit disrespectful or something .

Because Motorway driving is real world motoring, everyone knows that this is the domain of the accessible torque provided by TDIs.

Supercars are all petrol powered (apart from the 335d) and as a result their owners know that if they try to keep up with an A5 TDI in motorway traffic they will be blown away in a cloud of black smog trying to keep up.

5)Driving to or from a track. Why speed on the motorway when you have been pushing 160 on the straights of a circuit.
