Over the Christmas holiday I've been getting far too nostalgic about the five old Rovers I owned some years ago, a pair of P5B Coupes and three P6s, all of which were used as daily transport at different times. I keep looking at the classifieds and really fancy another, more so than the '60s and '70s Jags I've also been looking at...

There are some very nice examples of both types for sale at the moment and a little dickie bird tells me that the prototype P6B 3500S (manual) might be for sale soon...

If I ever bought another P6 it would have to be a 3500S!

But I'd want one with PAS, the box-pleat seats or leather and ideally a 5 speed gearbox.

I bought my 3500S in 1979 when I was never going to be able to afford a Jag from a similar era and couldn't afford to insure a 3 litre Capri.

Good luck with your search anyway. thumbup
Never owned a 3500S either and would love one but the best examples aren't cheap - there are a couple of very nice ones on c&c, one at £18k and one at £19k, the £18k car was at the NEC back in November...

Bought one on a whim 2 years ago, love them. Mines a 66 plate 5 door, it’s a real hoot.
The mrs currently has a 66 plate mini one , which is quite nice to drive. We're trading that in for the Cooper S , which I'm quite looking forward to! thumbup

Would love them both to fill my empty double garage.
A right hand drive B10 3.0 AllRad Touring was discovered a few years ago - it needs restoration iirc but it is a genuine Sytner conversion alongside the two saloons they did.
That is probably the most interesting and usable neo-classic you can buy for under £20k.

Gorgeous.

Lately I have been mostly obsessing about 3 cars.

Why on Earth I hear you cry, well here's my thinking. Insure it for peanuts as a classic (has to be 20-25 years old and a second car for this here in Ireland) for bimbling down to the shop in winter when the roads are covered in salt if it rots so be it, scrap it and buy another if you need to, then on weekends use it in local autotesting events, not worrying about winning anything just for fun.

We have a couple of modern cars E-class and a Golf GTI that are very well looked after and I wince if I think of a scratch or a mechanical problem with them. I like the idea of a back to basics cheap runabout that I can work on myself and use for fun without really caring if it gets a little damage here or there. Thats the real appeal is the use for fun, self-maintain and dispose of if necessary mentality that means its a joy to use properly without the worry of looming bills/borkage.

718 Boxster GTS. I have just spent two days driving one on the twisties of Marin, California - a friend's new acquisition.

And wow. I now see what all the fuss is about. Mind absolutely blown. Been looking at Autotrader...

Fantastic cars. Had a cayman for a week when it the UK last week and they're very much what a sports car should be!

I tend to obsess about cars I think I might conceivably afford once I retire. Lately ot has been Cayenne GTS 4.8, BMW X6M or FFRR S/C....oh, and 2cv vans and the like. But, prompted by the Land Cruiser thread I have mostly been obsessing lately about the Toyota FJ Cruiser...that would be a car to see me out I reckon.

Not the most exciting car in the world, however I've put a deposit down on a 2018 Alfa Giulia for £10,500, it's an absolute minter and a bargain so that's my obsession today.
Veloce? Super? I’ve been looking at Veloces as a replacement for my 428iGC later this year.
Alfa Red 2.2 diesel Tecnica with 113,000 miles. It’s a stonker and just a fraction over budget, most of the cars at work are A4’s or 3 series, I wanted to be different and I’ve owned a lot of Alfas over the years.

I’ve got 2 other cars which are petrol so didn’t mind this one running on derve.
That sounds like a perfect everyday car and a great buy. They always look stylish and drive nicely. Don’t forget to post some pictures.

Sooooooo;

My wife is looking at changing her lease car for an Audi Q8 e-tron. Which kind of makes my Range Rover a bit superfluous.

So she suggested why don’t I sell the Range Rover & buy an Aston Martin.

This one is for sale in Meteorite Silver

With burgandy leather.

My perfect colour combination.

I ummed & ahhhed all day yesterday about it.

The thing is, to make the numbers work I’d need to sell my Range Rover.

Firstly they have dropped a lot in value in the last few months, but more importantly I don’t think I can.
I do want an Aston very much, but if I wait a bit I can probably keep the Range Rover & buy a DB9.

Which is the right answer.

Still go back around the loop in my head every few hours though.

It’s a very pretty DB9.

I do love my Range Rover.

Hmmmmmmmm.

The most overated of all the Cossies imho. Have you driven one? It's a very rose tinted kind of car imho. And if you want to use one regularly you are destroying the "perceived" value. One for shows and very low mileage storage only nowadays. Heavily modded cars were great fun back in the day, I was fortunate enough to go in Martin Hadlands car, great memories.

I'm based in Ireland as well, so let's of sense there.

And guess what...

My youngest has a 2001 2 door Micra with 49k miles in the clock and it's a hoot to drive round town, not the best for longer journeys though.

My middle lad has a 2004 2 door Yaris, silver with red leather interior, another one that is a hoot to drive, he loves it.

As for me, I've been obsessing about an E46 M3, it was supposed to arrive yesterday! But now looks like it will be Monday before it can be collected.

I hope I haven't jinxed it, there have been a few hiccups on the way to me getting a car to obsess over!

I've driven a couple, mainly standard ones.
Not fast by today's standards, but like a lot of cars it's mainly nostalgia I think. If I had one I'd use it yes.
A friend has a 550bhp Monte which I've been passenger in, that thing is nuts.
I actually deep down prefer a 2wd Sapphire. But there's just something about how the Escort looks.

Love that.
Does it really matter how it drives anymore ? When Golfs etc would leave it for dust ?
It’s an Escort Cosworth. That’s enough.

This allowed ?or should I start a threat in Biker Banter? This is the opposite to the Escort above far and away too much performance. It’d be completely wasted on me.
Again, just look at it…

Another prospective Giulia owner here.

Prices of new ones are all over the place at the moment. Some new ones in dealers have gone up around £7k since before Christmas despite the list price on the Alfa website reducing.

Finance deals on most dealer sites expired or are about to and link to the previous RRP.

I like the look of the new Tributa edition but my dealer knew nothing about it and said it wasn’t yet available. Although the Alfa website says it is.

The configurator for the Giulia is also only accessible one very specific way on the Alfa website.

I genuinely think I’d be insane to buy one but still want to!
