Further to my previous post in this thread I’ve got to buy a car in the next 5 weeks. I’ve obsessed over everything, I’ve got a £20k budget and want something reasonably fast, reasonably economical and reasonably practical. Have gone from 4 series coupes, to 4 series GCs, to 3 series, 5 series, c63’s, A5’s, S4’s. I can car shop all day long when I’ve got no money but now can’t find anything I want!
Lexus ISF wink

Managed mid 30s mpg on a sensible run in mine earlier this week. That 8 speed box makes it a more economical alternative to the C63.

Have to agree with giblet. Had my ISF for 3 weeks now. Always average more than 28mpg. Recent trip to Devon showed 30.7, sticking to legal limits. At 80 the engine rev counter reads 2000....
Glad there's only 211 on the road, or everyone would have one!

I'm not even due to buy another car for a year and half and I'm obsessing over what I want as a replacement.

The list currently consists of:
- New Fiesta Active
- New Ford Ecosport
- Hyundai Kona
- Fiat Panda Cross
- Fiat 124 Spider
- Mazda MX-5
- VW Up! GTI (would be an almost identical replacement to my current Skoda Citigo, but much more powerful)
- you name it, I've considered it.

The latest obsession is the new Suzuki Jimny. I never go off road or anything but the new Jimny looks so damn cool I just want one.

Not sure why but I'm getting a sudden hankering for a z4, probably the 3.0 si version. Think it's the nice weather and rose tinted specs telling me I want another soft top. Also little beats donuts around roundabouts at antisocial times. Only had the Renault 4 months so will have to wait awhile.

If I didn’t have to pick my kids up from the child minder on the way home I’d be buying a 3.0 Z4 coupe, no doubt about it.

Bought one 2 months ago; best decision ever.

I hope you can find a way around the child-minder pick-up then!

I'm over 4 years into Z4 Coupe ownership and I still get a silly grin on my face every time I drive mine!

currently looking for 'one car that does all' in place of my C63 and 530d for work.

Currently the options are

Sensible choices:
2015(65 onwards) Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
Gen 2 Porsche Panamera 4S 4.0 V8 Diesel

Not so sensible choices:
BMW X5m
Mercedes G350d
BMW M6 Gran Coupe

So Far, the gen 2 Porsche Panamera 4S I feel I a winner. Yet to drive a V8 Diesel, But its very hard to ignore 420 bhp, 630lb ft torque and circa 40mpg! The interior quality, layout and tech is probably one of the best on the market at the moment too. And I think it looks fantastic but I feel its a marmite car in the looks department.

I'd be properly shocked if you get 40mpg out of any of those diesel options day to day unless you do hours on the motorway daily.

How about a 640 gc? Although the M6 would be top of the list for me.
So many choices smile

Selling my Aston as first child is due, I live in London, and have been underwhelmed by fast estates at the £30-35k mark. V8 RS4 too small and the engine is not great with the S-tronic around town. RS6 a non-event at low speed, and over what I want to spend. Also likely to get stolen.

E63 AMG (W212) seems like a lot of car for the money, but the interior seems a bit rubbish and it looks like an airport taxi. The one I tested was very nice to burble around in.

Then I found a red CLS63 AMG for sale in WImbledon. And have been obsessing ever since. I just looks so good in the metal (if a bit weird in photos) - sort of art deco steampunk gangster silliness. The interior is a cut above any of the mainstream cars - dead cow slathered over every surface, and a cockpit that feels low, and right. And it had a pleasing V8 woofle at all speeds, unlike the Audis. Was easy to drive like a daily, but in sprt mode, was an absolute animal.

I just need one in black for maximum menace. Lovely thing - had never even thought of them before. Honestly, I prefer the saloon version - but the brake will do as a practical family wagon. If I buy one, I shall keep it until it is outlawed or dead. Debadged, too.

Want.

Thought about this, but the V8V isn't special enough to keep (my old E320 convertible and Saab 900 are though, and will be staying - especially as they have rear seats). Aston costs a lot to keep optimal (I have the bills to prove it as I don't skimp on my cars), isn't a medium term appreciating investment, and with two seats will never get used.

Uberwagen it is!
