Not exactly 'obsessing' - and this wouldn't be the first time I bought a vehicle from a neighbor.

'76 Eldorado convertible with a 500 cu in motor and a totally shagged-out roof cover. Drop-head skeleton appears to be OK and operational. Glass and interior intact. Have yet to peer under the hood. It might, just fit in my garage. Dull color, but cheap price....
now that's interesting! Resto-mod or 'just' repair?

Something like this at the minute, reasonable performance mixed with reasonable economy and practicality has peeked my interest.

Good question - on further investigation, it turns out it's actually a '74 model - examples in "retail" condition command pretty good money ($14k - $20k), so if I did it, it would be to repair and flip.

This assumes it runs OK and isn't a total rats nest under the hood. The roof skin/rear window is probably $1500 and it needs about $1k worth of prep/paint to maintain the (somewhat boring) factory color. Mechanically? - who knows? 500ci motor is lo-po and understressed and GM Turbo-Hydramatic 3 speed is plentiful if shot and relatively easy to rebuild if merely tired. The interior looks OK, - grubby, but complete. These old boats have a lot of power-accessories (windows. seats etc.,) and those can be difficult and expensive to revive.

The owner wants $7k for it, so there's not a whole heap of profit in it at that price. It would not really be my style to smoke around in a 22 foot-long land yacht like this - but might be a fun tinkering project to bring it back to life.

Me too, there's a Facebook group I belong to, unusual car sales uk, and a chap in there is selling a fully restored fluvial for 20k and I am incredibly tempted. If I hadn't just spent 170k on a house extension I'd have it. Screen shotted the ad for those not on fb;

I want that. Reckon he'd take a 1994 E320 in part exchange?

Thought not.

Currently this

To replace my v8 disco 3. Smaller, older, higher running costs, less towing capability, less suitable for general daily abuse. None of which seem to be registering with me as substantive enough negatives when weighed against the 6.2 n/a 500bhp v8.

Going to view the one in the pic tomorrow which has 56k on the clock, seems in fine fettle and is very well priced, US import so some diligence to be done but means it’s on a par price wise with similar year ML350’s. As a mate said when I asked his opinion, if you’re going in, might as well go balls deep!

I think in a couple of cars time I’ll be in a hybrid or smaller capacity turbo of some sort, so feel it’s time for a last hurrah

Keep thinking about a 4 seat convertible for summer trips with kids.

F30 M4s and E90 M3s have zero boot with roof down so they’re out.
An E46 M3 might be cool but not sure on rear and front isofix.

Was thinking about a 6.2 V8 Mercedes but I’m struggling to find a C class cabrio 6.2, were they the CLK?

Did they do a 4 seat cabrio 6.2 in the 2009-2015 ish vintage?

Hyundai I20 n after a poster mentioned one on the Yaris grmn thread. They'd completely passed me by and as a result I'll be hopefully finding a local dealer with one in stock to test drive and if it's as good as the grmn ill probably start the ball rolling ordering one.

It's either one of these or a swift sport.

Trust me when I say this. It's epic. Get one. Don't bother with a Swift Sport because it won't be half as good.

I've been looking for a replacement for my Yaris grmn without buying another!

So fits the bills perfectly. Ring round a few dealers for a dragon red with Bose which seems non existent so pretty much set on ordering a new one best price I've had so far is £26.2k and a approx sept delivery if I order in next week or so. Desperately trying to find a local dealer with one in stock to drive and make my mind up

Manchester. I spoke to the Salford dealer who has a white or blue in stock. Soon as i mentioned I wouldn't be buying one in those colours. His attitude changed instantly neither of those have the Bose specced either

Good shouts.

I think the XKR might be a bit cramped in the back? Bit wafty vs driving fun?

RS5 not a drivers car really? Having sampled numerous quicker Audi stuff it’s always just a bit bland, but technically excellent.

M6… will take a look. Could also be an option for a manual conversion, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of M5 V10s getting that treatment!

Problem is, are there really any 4 seat convertibles that are fun to drive and roomy?

They're all based off of large cars so either have loads of room and/or need huge strengthening for the scuttle shake meaning they're heavy and not much fun to drive
