Reality of the naff small parking spaces at work that are about to get a whole lot worse means small cars only.

So no hot Civic/Golfs etc frown

Have to stick in the Mini class.

So looking at Cooper S or Swift 1.4t Sport

Both good, Mini the better faster overall car, but the Swift will be much more reliable, more space inside, much less likely to vandalised/stolen.

If refinement isn't a huge consideration then I'd be tempted by a Clio 182 with lots of restoration/modifications. They just look 'right' to me, even after 20 years.

While a top idea, and the 182 is a car I love, I need something with:

Speed limiter as well as cruise control.

A car built to use E10 fuel from the start, not just tolerates it.

And Euro 6 to avoid any ULEZ moving the boundaries on the what Euro gets charged next, willing to bet they'll add Euro 4 petrol to the list of chargeable in a few years, I tend to keep for cars for years and years.

Plus I pound the motorway from Manchester to Liverpool and back once a fortnight, very often to Wales as well.

The VW Multivan: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202306068...

I like my WAV Ford Tourneo Custom a great lot, but I really like the Multivan. The boot aperture looks pretty narrow for wheelchairs, likely meaning it has never been seriously considered for conversion. Never mind.

Yeah, don't buy a 182 biglaugh

I saw one yesterday in that bright blue colour they did and it brought back lustful memories!

I'm increasingly obsessed with the idea of a Polestar 2.

I know they're not going to be much fun but I get the same sense of affection as I do for the base model old Saab 900s. There just something "slightly posh workhorse" that makes me smile.

I think there's something wrong with my brain, and will watch a few videos of motorbikes and sportscars to fix it a bit...

I test drove an AWD performance one at the Silverstone Classic last year (just gave me the keys and said be back in 45 mins!); and then they lent me a 2WD version for 3 days. First EV i drove, and I *really* like the design... would have been a daily driver/commuting car.

But - apart from the annoying occasional 250-350 mile day the job requires, i just couldn't get past the ride. Just as bad as a Tesla - like a roller skake. I sort of get it for the performance version, but - surely the cooking one should be more comfy?!

In the end - talked wife into getting an Ioniq 6 as her company car, and i use that instead. Not as wafty ride wise as my V90, but otherwise so so easy and relaxing to drive as a boring workhorse than a clattering turbo diesel.

Oh, and in other news am still obsessing about a Honda Beat.

I have rekindled my hankering for an early, brass-era Ford Model T. I think it would be a lot of fun.

I've also spent far too much time on the Morgan configurator lately, speccing my ideal Super 3.

Both cars would be fun in the stable.

Thanks, interesting POV.

And I'd love a Honda S660

My mini isn't a quick one but has been very reliable over 5 years and 70k miles.

Small and fun, you want a VW Up GTi.

Speaking as someone who has done 5k+ miles in both an Up GTI and Swift Sport 1.4T, I can categorically say you don't want the GTI. Get the Swift.

Early X3M Competitions. I know everyone complains about the hard suspension, but i see MSS can might fix this. I drove a facelift and it's perfectly fine, and reminded me i'm missing an M car in the garage. Plus i have an excuse for a newborn baby transporter.. surely this is 'sensible' ?

~55k gets you a top spec pre-LCI, which makes the LCI quite expensive at 75k for similar. X3 M40i is going to be similar money to X3M pre-facelift vs X3 M40i LCI.

A few weeks we were having a drink at a bar in Barcelona. Was in a pedestrian area. Guy pulls up in a light blue E39 M5 to unpack some stuff. Looked to be in good but used condition. Just thought it would be great to have as a daily car but also for long trips. Understated compared to most new cars.
