Mods, can you please convert this into a poll.

So, you've already got a hatchback for all those routine driving jobs. Suddenly you're in the luck and have £30,000 to spend on another car.

What's it going to be? Sports car or 4x4?

This. You could have good examples of both for £30k.

Here in Crete no contest......................4X4 every time!

There is a tax loophole which makes RX8's very attractive as there is no equivelance formula for the Rotary engine so they are classed as 1300cc, so could be tempted by the right one!

I usually hate the guys that say buy a shed and spend the rest on coke & hookers, however, he has a point about buying both, £30k:

I hate you too wink

And I said spend £3k.

But yeah, for £30k you could get a very nice sports car and a very nice 4x4.

tongue out I meant you have a point about buying both.

If you have £30k purely to spend on a vehicle, why would you only spend £3k? I never get these suggestions?!? Its almost like telling people they cant afford it despite knowing nothing about them, very odd if you ask me...

Thats a strange one, you NEED a 4x4 but you don't NEED a sports car! So, you live on a farm/have to tow a horse box or it snows alot where you live. Get a 4x4 or do as I (a Mr Chris Harris has done!) Buy a £3000 diesel Passat estate and spunk the rest on a £27,000 sports car!

If they have £30k to spend, great. Lots of people don't, me included. Just pointing out you CAN do it for much less.

For £30k I'd go Boxster S or Corvette or NSX and a Unimog.

For everything apart from track days I would take a luxurious/comfortable 4x4 everytime. 4x4s no longer have the performance handicap that they used to.

But there is more to fun driving than how fast it is.

But this guy obviously does, hence him asking what shall i spunk my £30k on. This is why I never get these "spend 10% of what ever it is your going to spend" posters. Its not just you, it seems the majority of PH love posting similar, I was just saying I find it a bit odd.

As for the Unimog thumbup

And if we are throwing curve balls, how about the faster, sportier:

Agreed. Apart from the "alot".

And to expand, if one has a car for "routine driving jobs", that car is essentially doing the job a 4x4 would do, I would have thought. I mean, if I had access to a 4x4 and a sports car and fancied a Sunday drive, I wouldn't take the 4x4! And if I wanted a comfy drive to work in stop-start traffic, I'd take the 4x4.

Sooooooo, sell the car you have, replace it with a 4x4 of equivalent value and get a £30k sports car!

That said, I have been known to commute to work in stop-start traffic in a car with a triple plate clutch and 650bhp under the bonnet so I'd sell the daily driver, too!
