Just perfect. Apart from that dreadful looking front lip spoiler. Really crude (even if it is original)

BMW 2002 with Alpina engine on massive carbs, wide BBS split rims, race inspired interior with big cage.

Won best of show at Unphased on Sunday

Saw that at Gaydon last year and it's not for me I'm afraid. It's just a bit OTT and things like the trimmed boot etc just ruin it. It's not an Alpina engine either.

Agreed, except something doesn't look right with the bonnet line, grill and headlamp on the left. like it's been in a prang?

The whole outer bodyshell has been completely rebuilt, the front and rear wings, rear doors, front panel, front and rear bumper, grille and headlamp setup onto the bonnet slam panel is different to a basic B2 80. Chances are, its fibreglass bumper, bonnet and wings. The work that went into the car to get that level of engine and bodyshell fitment must have identified and confirmed the chassis integrity long before craning in that kind of power.

That Audi 80 ticks all the right boxes for me; subtle but not too subtle to hide the performance-oriented features. Love it!
+1, that just looks tremendous

No more info on the CRX. It's friend of a friend who is building it and we just get updates every now and again.

Boy building it had never welded anything before and just learned as he went. Un-tapped talent right there!

The wings on the 80 are metal according to the build write up.

To me, it looks just perfect; subtle, but the Quattro flares and the stance are absolutely spot on, but even more impressive is the level of engineering that's gone it to it...

Prior to the start of the bigger bulk of work the chassis was stripped and built to Audi Motorsport Group B specification. Reidar then went pretty much mental on the details, fabricating a custom subframe to lower the engine 2" and move it rearwards by a massive 3"…

… as well as cutting out the inner section of the wheel arches and raising the suspension turrets 2? so as to lower the car but maintain the same suspension travel.

Tons of custom work was done under the car too, which not only includes repositioned transmission mounts (3? further back like the engine) but a custom double floor set-up to isolate the cabin from heat and hide away all the custom wiring that’s been laid down.

Amazing attention to detail.

can't help feeling it would be nicer if it wasn't dull 3-box 4 door saloon to start with

For me, that's a HUGE part of the appeal.

Looks fairly innocuous at first glance (and will be invisible to most people), yet real petrolheads will know there's something different about it and want to take a closer look. Plus it will annihilate pretty much anything else on the road.

I dunno, I think that 'gag' would lose its appeal pretty quickly

2 doors always beat 4, coupes beat 2 door saloons

(estates beat 4 doors though)

I'm not saying the car is rubbish but I am less moved about the body. I think 4 door cars are good if you have 4 seats. If you dont then I start to question why bother.

Sometimes the 4 doors simply make better race cars, as with the e36 BMW.

Maybe, yes. I don't know enough about the marque but there may well be benefits that outweigh the aesthetics. I think the car in that post in fantastic and it's being a 4 door adds another dimension.
