I has wondered whether the photos I'd seen were a bit complimentary...
It was built from a scrap shell and purposely hasn't been over-restored to give an 'elderly race car revived' feel to it.
Oh aye, I've followed the build from start to finish as i'm a big of Pipey but you know what its like with builds such as this where the work can look awesome in pics but then a bit rough up close.

His K70 is by far my favourite build though as you could quite easily daily it!

I saw this go up the hill at Shelsey and it's bloody quick. Makes a great noise and I like the unrestored / tatty look.

That's rather brilliant. If it's done well enough then it makes a great daily with modern mechanicals and classic looks. There must be a proper market for this kind of stuff as I'm sure most of us have thought about it before. I'd maybe change the wheels though, something a bit smaller if they clear the brakes.

I’d forgotten how slab-sided and basic the design of the K70 was. Perfect candidate for a sleeper project like this. Love it.

Putting this out there, a Smart Roadster based Alpine kit. https://smarlinette.fr

I like it, but it's €16,540 plus a Smart Roadster.

Nice looking thing but by the time all’s said and done you’re probably a fair chunk of the way to a new Alpine price-wise?!

Brilliant apart from being ruined by stupid camber, wheel, stretched tyre combo. Not having a go, just my opinion.

It doesn't have any camber, and those tyres aren't particularly stretched either.

very nice indeed - I'm part of the way there having a Smart 452 Roadster. Just haven't got the spare €16,540

I’m glad someone else said it as I thought the same but assumed I was going mad

+3.

Some people don’t seem to understand what the camber/tyre stretch thing actually is.

is there anything remotely appealing about the K70 though, other than 'it's an obscure VW'? it wasn't even that originally, it was an NSU, little bro to the Ro80 (ROtary or Kolben (piston) )

bit of a dull car to do such an interesting body swap to

Unfortunately I think it can be summed up by simply "Its an old VW" that and the sleeper aspect of it

It's the obscurity factor, combined with that engine, that I like.

Me too. Left-field choice to the predictable alternatives.
