I saw the BTG time and assumed it was a lightly modded 318D so clicked on the full thread about it and its a 330i

It’s a JDM only car, we didn’t get it in the U.K.

Lovely conversion and great power, don’t know if they’ll ever get £13.5k for it though!
surely not JDM only, there are loads of them in Germany

You're probably right. I know we never got it here. Probably some parts of Europe did get it.

Indeed. Not sure I'd be shouting about doing the same ring time as Clarkson in a diesel Jag, but it takes all sorts to make the world go round.

What times have you done around the ring in lightly modded cars then?

Absolutely none. But owning an E46 330 and having a few track miles under my belt, I wouldn't be shouting about it if I went around as quick as Sabine Schmidt in a Transit van.

The 'Ring isn't like a normal track with open sight lines. For a first visit, driving within your limits, that's not a time to laugh at. Not everyone is Steffan Bellof.

(ps, it's Schmitz)

9.05-9.10 in a bog standard 2004 automatic, Subaru Legacy. Less power than the BM. And in period (2005) tyres with a passenger.

9.01 in a 2002 Corolla TSport. Had back seats taken out but otherwise standard and maybe even downgraded as had budget tyres on it!

8.24 in a 1996 Impreza with big brakes, again talking 2004-2006 tyres. Only had about 230-240bhp

The circuit has also changed and gotten faster since those times.

Hence my surprise at the modded 330 being comfortably slower.

So you are faster than he is, well done.

But the important thing is that he didn't brag about incredibly mediocre times...

I'm not bragging , and it's not about to set the world alight in performance.

It's the context of it, power to weight is only 160bhp per tonne currently given it's 1475 kg according to specs (will need to do a weigh in), plus only completed 16 laps so far. With more seat time it'll come down.
I'm pleased so far, but i know I've not got the best out of it yet, that will only come with practice.

Considering how many laps Sabine has done and her incredible knowledge of the ring having done 20K+ laps! (and how many performance cars and bikes she passed in that Transit) I'd be happy enough were I to beat that time as a novice.
