Love that old Renault a way up. Really does it for me!

Continuing the Mercedes theme from a few posts, I found this car in my recommendations in YouTube so have found a few pics. It's essentially an extreme restomod, using a turbocharged LS V8. The only bit I'm not sure of is the modern steering wheel - looks a little out of place but I'm really splitting hairs here!

Besides the turbo V8, it also has a suicide door converstion (a la Rover P4 or Lincoln Continental), a roof chop, air suspension, modern headlights integrated into the original housings. From the video I saw they also seem to have extended "remove the number plate and pop it in the windscreen" to the rear numberplate... I really hope that doesn't become a thing!

This car is owned by Pat a friend of mine , he's had the turbo rebuilt after a failure and its now putting out over 1200lb-ft torque ,

originally it was commissioned by second owner Hans Kristian Rausing , back in 1999 who's brief to LYNX engineering and Britain Brodie racing to" double the power output "!, fit the car with a bespoke turbo ( a first for Aston art the time ) but keep the car looking as standard as possible , so no major modification externally to the bodywork , the only visual difference are the larger diameter 18"wheels to accommodate the larger brakes . I've seen the build sheets and receipts and the build which took over a year to complete ,is eye watering , and indeed cost hundreds of thousands of pounds,
The engineering that went into this build was phenomenal they had an open cheque book ,back in 1999 -2000
amongst major modifications included an RS Williams 7 litre engine , a bespoke auto gearbox ( 4 speed borg warner from a Bentley turbo R ) modified with a torque converter ,

& once complete Hans didn't want to drive it ? rumour has it went into his garage until it was sold to Nicholas mee
and the car in Pats ownership has gone from strength to strength.

Thanks for that! I never expected that someone here would personally know the car, so it's great to hear some of the back story.

You can tell your friend the car's history folder is also eye-wateringly expensive... I settled for an off-the-shelf one in the end as the folder from the same company was going to be a substantial portion of my build budget biggrin

Looks like a decent (even epic!) job...

...however, looks better before IMO. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Agree. The original is beautiful. However, this is pretty fine too, though the boot/trunk looks out of place with the flowing lines.

Most of it looks lovely but I'm a little confused why there is a Caterham nosecone stuck on the back?

I know it's only an engine but as it started as a lowly Z3 lump it's come along quite nicely with a few bits and bobs from other BMW.

Quality of the work is top notch and it will drive the people who park these in a bubble and never drive it absolutely off their nut. Bonus points for the face masks that match the seats also hehe

Typical Ford, the headlights were always falling out!

+1 regarding the affront, and I don't think its a Ford specific thing, its just doesn't belong in the tasteful modification thread....

Clearly not been shy spending money but....

Front is all kinds of a cosmetic mess
Has it been abandoned ? Why is there what looks like a light missing on one side?
Rim trims lowered too low too near arches reminds me of gurning with false teeth? biggrin
Seen a lot nicer Fords tbh....
