Only pic I have of the car at normal height is below, to answer a question above. This is a bit higher than i run it now, but even here - that is lower than a static lowered SEC.
Looks fantastic at this or a little lower as you say. Not a fan of the collapsed look with all the neg camber at the back.Jules Sunley said:
Never understood 'air ride' - when dropped they just look broken to me. Best bit of the car for me is the number plate - that does as someone else said belong in the 'good plane's thread. Car not for me at all but then not mine so no who cares what I think!
They look broken to many but some people seem to think it is cool.I don’t get why you want your car to look broken and stuck on the floor but you do see loads of pics with cars like that, especially VW and Old mercs. I guess we are all different.

It’s the mix of colours in the rear lights at the moment that is off putting. That is why the front being all clear works, they are all clear but the rear at the moment is clear red orange

another vote for that. I also think the white indicator covers make it look like the glass is smashed and missing. It’s the mix of colours in the rear lights at the moment that is off putting. Next project after the SEC is finished, and the MX5 racecar building on the ramps at the moment is finished is definitely going to be a modified 914.
Relatively easy to find, easy enough to work on (i think!), and there are two of us in the village going to take it on - so costs split. Plus plenty of engine swap options , including a subaru to replace the VW van engine, or even an LS swap option....
Something like this - clean, widebody, lowered of course, chassis strengthened and a rollcage.... big fuch wheels. I think these can be done very tasefully, and it's not as if you're ruining an all time classic if you start with a tired VW engined version. Plan to start from 2023...

I had a wide arched 914 in red many moons ago. Unfortunately pre internet when parts were far harder to source and stupidly expensive. One of the outer door handles snapped (nasty monkey metal) and it was nigh on £400 for a replacement. The injection had been binned for a single Weber but it wasn't exactly quick. It was great fun but just didn't have the performance to match those great looks. The stock gearbox shift was woeful though. If only I could have squirrelled it away till now. I'd go Subaru turbo power and race car livery. I think they're great little cars and the rear view is one of the best for me. Nice - any old pics? I do think when wide-body especially they are a genuinely beautiful car, but also totally unique as well. Perfect proportions, and that rear view as you say is gorgeous. I've done a bit of research and parts don't look too bad to come by - although a lot of them need to come from the US where there is still a massively following, so import charges/delays, etc. Handily the main engine swap place appears to be in Las Vegas. So of course that will require a field trip...

Sadly not. I remember it was on a 1978/T reg' plate so assume that was the year of import? It was a little tired looking but solid and a good runner. They just weren't much loved back then. I had that and then a 924 Lux which I also really enjoyed.HM-2 said:
As with others, the SEC isn't my usual style but I st beill like it.
I also dislike the rear lights, though. Completely red ones would work better IMO.

The current one's look cheap and nasty and the originals too dated for the current look (imo)
So yes, all red is the solution - certainly to my eyes anyway.
