Must be amazing having designed the original Porsche 911 and watch it evolve over the years.

Really hope Porsche have a very limited edition or something to celebrate the life of this great man.

RIP.
Totally agree - he more than deserves that.

I am no fan of the modern Porsche, but the 911 he designed will always be an icon. He really was one of those people that made something memorable in his time. Good on him, hopefully there's no speed limits in heaven!

RIP Ferdinand A Porsche.

I am a BMW fan through and through but Mr Ferdinand A Porsche......you sir are a LEGEND, a HERO, thank u for designing such an incredible ICON that has stood the test of time (remember the 928 that was meant to replace it?), one of the benchmarks for sports cars around the world, for penning those incredible iconic lines, for having the strength to never give up (even if the engine is in the "wrong" place) and leaving behind an incredible brand and legacy Porshe..

Makes it even more poignant that I today purchased (co-incidentally) my perfect dateless 911 number plate to adorn my 911.

911 and my two initials. I shall remember the day forever.

A legend you are sir. May you rest forever in peace in the knowledge that you created an icon.

It's always tragic when you hear news like this. Unfortunately I have to add another 'Communist Party BBC' comment to the mix. Just heard his death reported on Radio 2 news (good he's considered newsworthy). The report said that he was responsible for a 'clean iconic design (of the 911)' and as a final sentence:
"And also a symbol of wealth".

Guardian reading tw3ts.

Surely a very sad day in the motoring world; is there anyone else in the world who will be remembered by 3 digits - 9 1 1 ?
A good man, a great man, and one who has probably more dreams for more people than anyone else 😥

Wasn't going to tax mine for this year until 1st May, maybe now I'll just do it tomorrow as a mark of respect, a great man and great achievements in his time. Like others on this forum have said, he must have watched proudly as his 'baby' grew to maturity so gracefully, and with such commitment to the purity of it's origins. Others have tried to kill it off in the past, but then perfection will always fly in the face of evil!!

RIP Mr Porsche 911

Just a thought to ponder, but, if 'Butzi' hadn't been around to design the 912/911, do you think we would still have a Porsche brand today, would it have survived the down turns and crisis's of the last half century?

If it weren't for the longevity of the 911's design, would Porsche as a company have generated the revenue to invest in the development and build of other models? 914/924/944/928/Cayenne/Cayman, would they have ever been born? I think possibly not?

Porsche 904? Many years ago I 'grafted' a 904 bodyshell on to an Escort chassis and running gear, what a car that turned out to be.....unfortunately the centre of gravity was too high, the little plastic guide blade pick-up and braided brushes came out of the slot in the track on corners, looked good though in Gulf colours.

Do it!! I bought my first one when MrB was 7 months pregnant with number one child, traded a 5 door Vauxhall Cavalier in for it, OK, looking back not my most sensible motoring decision, where do you put a 1980's Silver Cross in a 911? Bought her an old Fester for the baby goods, best thing I ever did, the 911 not the fester, it was a rust bucket!

A decent SC can be bought for a lot cheaper than say a modern Vectra, solid as a rock, low running costs, no fancy electronics or gizmo's to be concerned with but 'oodles of fun and grins!!

All gone now, but what a great engineering dynasty they were, between them they were responsible for the alpha and omega of my 4-wheeled automotive pleasure (plus a small but much appreciated contribution from Lotus)...

Ha Ha I did read that and think well if MRB was pregnant you would be abel to afford many 911's as you'd have made a fourtune selling the story!
