Porsche was such a small company then, and design was about drawings and blueprints, and an original vision. I doubt that he ever imagined that even today, there is a clear line back to his magnificent creation, and the Porsche shape is one of the few instantly recognizable to everyone, whether car fans or not. He had a supreme gift for aesthetic purity. From itsbirth the 911 has always been ranked among the greatest of cars, often along with true supercars.
I am not much of a fan of celebrities, but I would love to have met him. Its a sad day for the 911 when its creator has died.
RIP.

I had a 911 Turbo Targa (1989) poster on my wall as a teenager...I still have it althought it's now on the wall in the garage.

Some years after the poster went up my folks bought a 911 Targa - I'll never forget being given the keys to it for my 25th birthday and being told to "go for a drive - see you in a few hours"...after years of reading books about Porsche and how to drive a 911 (and how NOT to!) I was on my way...tail end hanging out from wet Wellington (NZ) roundabouts and four hours of utter delight.

I owe Butzi a debt of gratitude. Due to the man I have some exceptional memories.

RIP.

As a 911 lover but, sadly, a non owner I mourn the lose of the man who created possibly the greatest car ever built.

911 - three simple numbers known to petrol heads the world over.

RIP.

This week I have been driving my 911 at some serious three-figure speeds on some of the finest country roads I've ever been on, and then I drove home in a single 5hr stint in total comfort. That is the beauty of the 911, and is why it's still the definitive sports car all these years later.

Thanks Butzi, RIP.

Few that pass this way can honestly say they have changed the face of their profession, he could. When he turns up at the Pearly Gates, St. Peter will just toss him the keys and say, "thank you."

I used to think like you, from a small child in the back of my Dad's cars used to see 911's in traffic and think the same, I've had two 911's now, I've also brought up 5 kids (with my wife), never earned ridiculous salaries, just gave up some things in life and settled for older 911's, but owned them nevertheless, my current car a 3.2 1988 Carrera, it isn't modern, it's not a Turbo and it's not an RS, but, it is a 911 and it's mine, never say never mate, just be determined and achieve your dream

I did say earlier on this thread that asa mark of respect I would tax mine this weekend, however having checked the weater forecast for the North East of Scotland (going to Knockhill Circuit this weekend) have chosen to delay until next month, but, I did go and buy a gallon of 'V' Power in a jerry can, go to the car in storage and started it up, thought to myself this is a bit like going to the grave of a favourite friend at an aniversary, sad day for motors.........

To be honest I'd never heard of the younger Ferdinand Porsche, until I saw the first thread about his passing on here. I have heard of his cousin Ferdinand Piech though.

R.I.P

The grey 1980s 911 Carrera that a neighbor down the street had was my first dream car when I was 5 or 6. It was probably part of what turned me on to cars.

To this day, the memory of that car survives, as does my love for Porsches, especially classic ones.

Though I am not yet an owner, I know one day I will have one. 911s are the attainable dream car, something even the everyman can aspire to own.

The 911, possibly the most iconic single model of car, ever. Thank you, F.A. Porsche.
