Sub 7 secs rules out pretty much everything in this thread then.
Believe me, the Ignis grips the road like a limpet. I've embarrassed a lot of much higher powered cars in mine on twisty roads.
I know they are good cars and handle well but 110 bhp to me will never be hot hatch not matter how many cars they do. Believe me, the Ignis grips the road like a limpet. I've embarrassed a lot of much higher powered cars in mine on twisty roads.
A lot of the cars are in my eyes not hot hatches even in there own time, but this is really in comparison to the age it was built. A hot hatch now would be 250 bhp + maybe 10 years ago 180 bhp +.

106 Gti without a doubt. Insane handling, hugely tuneable, and if you push your budget to 2k you can get one already running itb's. Will out-handle anything.
Hugely tuneable is kinda a moot point, there no more tuneable than most other engines, just need a load of money dropping on one, which kinda defies the point of a 1.5k budget.Glad this topic has re-lit as im still struggling to make my mind up.
The mr2 argument is that i felt a complete tool when trying to fix mine when its clutch died, ended up just selling it and being done with it, feel a fool but it did need a grand worth of paint and a new gearbox so it was time to say bye. Mid engined is just too cramped to work on.
I'd love a prelude, i was looking at the old one for the quintessential 80's straight edge looks. I'd have a more modern one, but heard that getting one with 4ws working and with a vtec that isnt a little weezy is hard. Oh if i could find a 80's prelude it'd have to be orange, if anyone has seen DJ Mehdi they'll understand.
Gti6 is still a strong shout to be honest, the 30k cambelt does scare me but i'll be doing 7.5k a year social only, so it's not that bad. The 172/182 it is hard to find a clean one in my price range, it would be nice to stretch the budget, but if i start stretching it too much i might aswell go back to the original plan of buying a GT6 and just living my tax free car life again.

For me, there's many things other than power which makes a fun hot hatch. Unfortunately manufacturers have started their willy waving of power, and we will only see an increase in power as the years go by. IMO, the main parts of a hot hatch is the ability to put a childish grin on your face while being able to travel unnoticed when wanted. Handling is the key factor for me I suppose, would much rather a car which can handle superbly while using all the power it has, rather than one which is brilliant on a straight line, but has much trouble getting to use all the power it has in all situations. Plus, many modern hatchbacks are quite heavy, therefore requiring more power. Light and nimble is more fun for me.
In saying that, although compared to your EP3's ect, the Ignis is quite slow (0-60 in 8.9), it is still able to put a huge smile on my face every time I drive it and will continue to do that until I get rid of it. + the satisfaction of getting from A to B in a menacing way while having to work for such menace is a major appeal.

nissan almera gti!!!! by far
wont break down either and rev tastic
He's right - nothing comes close in this price bracket, unlikely to keep being hit with huge repair bills too.wont break down either and rev tastic
I have had 5 or 6 of these in my time (some brand new ones as company cars back in the day, up to old ropey ones quite recently) - all awesome (relatively speaking).
For some reason they never looked too great on paper, but in the real world you can embarrass plenty of 'exotica' with one!

Focus ST, not as exciting as the French stuff but should be cheap to run.

Expensive on fuel for the poer IMOhttp://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3558889.htm
OP, what about something a bit different like a 328i? Or even an ST24 on that budget, mine was £800 and brilliant. Vectra B GSI is an alternative choice too, or maybe an Accord Type R?

I drove one of these a while back, and IMO it was nowhere near as good as the ST24 I bought instead. Seats weren't that great, ride wasn't that good, not enough torque, not that fast, and far, far too expensive for what it is.

Those ST24's are great fun. V6 sounds good with a bit of boot too! OP, what about something a bit different like a 328i? Or even an ST24 on that budget, mine was £800 and brilliant. Vectra B GSI is an alternative choice too, or maybe an Accord Type R?
If you can stretch to one of these. I'd go for it. Non abused cars are very reliable, they go like stink, handle well, rwd, proper GT car and I don't think they stay this cheap forever.
