Sub 7 secs rules out pretty much everything in this thread then.
Believe me, the Ignis grips the road like a limpet. I've embarrassed a lot of much higher powered cars in mine on twisty roads.
I know they are good cars and handle well but 110 bhp to me will never be hot hatch not matter how many cars they do. smile

A lot of the cars are in my eyes not hot hatches even in there own time, but this is really in comparison to the age it was built. A hot hatch now would be 250 bhp + maybe 10 years ago 180 bhp +.
I will admit that the Ignis Sport isn't a hot hatch by todays standards, but it still has the fundementals (IMO) which makes a good hot hatch.

For me, there's many things other than power which makes a fun hot hatch. Unfortunately manufacturers have started their willy waving of power, and we will only see an increase in power as the years go by. IMO, the main parts of a hot hatch is the ability to put a childish grin on your face while being able to travel unnoticed when wanted. Handling is the key factor for me I suppose, would much rather a car which can handle superbly while using all the power it has, rather than one which is brilliant on a straight line, but has much trouble getting to use all the power it has in all situations. Plus, many modern hatchbacks are quite heavy, therefore requiring more power. Light and nimble is more fun for me.

In saying that, although compared to your EP3's ect, the Ignis is quite slow (0-60 in 8.9), it is still able to put a huge smile on my face every time I drive it and will continue to do that until I get rid of it. + the satisfaction of getting from A to B in a menacing way while having to work for such menace is a major appeal.
I have to agree with Mr Goose here - and I have a little Ignis Sport. They are fun little cars that handle nicely, but no way are they in the same league as a true hot hatch. However, £1500 will get you a tidy if not mint one, and they have very little scope to throw a large bill at you (simple engine - no turbo), insurance is cheap, fuel is pretty good (40 mpg on 98/99 RON), tyres are cheap (T1R's at £50 a corner), parts are cheap on the aftermarket...If you are looking for something fun and have very little budget as £1500 suggests, then I'd consider one.

Ignis Sport has gotta be a proper hot hatch, fast enough, handles superbly, mad styling inside and out, recaros, a world away from the standard Ignis.

Hot hatches are not just about straight line speed in my opinion they are about fun!

And like many people say they really do keep up with cars a league above, raced a new civic type R and wasn't too embarrassed !

If you can stretch to one of these. I'd go for it. Non abused cars are very reliable, they go like stink, handle well, rwd, proper GT car and I don't think they stay this cheap forever.

I'd like to wrap up this thread, as i came close to buying a 306 gti6 a 106 rallye, a celica and almost a prelude. I have however settled on something keeping with my original post, i've bought a clio williams, it needs work cosmetically but i beleive it to be mechanically looked after and genuine.

Having been for the test drive in it i was blown away and luckily did all my looking around the rust before hand otherwise i would of never considered them.

I will post up in the apropriate forum within the week to show you the new cash extractor i've purchased.

Thanks again for your input guys, ive seen some great cars and if i'd only had a larger budget would be riding round in one of the ones posted.

Good choice of four-wheeled-wallet-tap!! Keep it looked after, keep it out of hedges and lamp-posts and the values of those will only go one way!

Looking forward to the photos smile

I drove one of these a while back, and IMO it was nowhere near as good as the ST24 I bought instead. Seats weren't that great, ride wasn't that good, not enough torque, not that fast, and far, far too expensive for what it is.
i dunno where people get this from, my 170 is awesome pulls from 1500 rpm strongly, seats are fine, firm but comfortable ride, tight around corners

though i admit out of the 3 i drove before mine, first one was slow as piss, 2nd really quick and mine ( hence why i bought )
