RE: PH Blog: you can't handle the truth
Discussion
The Boxsters a great car, albeit one with a slightly duff image these days.
However, real men with functioning junk have children. If you like convertibles (I do) then Boxsters and all other 2 seat cabs are out. The rear seats in a 911 cab are ok for kids. Most full four seat cabs are somewhat wobbly and poor to drive. The 997 cab is epic (when the engines aren't melting) so no surprise it's the default choice for manly men who have proved their manliness and like cabs.

There could be a shocker of a story in here.
Best 991 before the GT3 arrives is C2 Cabrio Manual in low spec.
Other reviews I've read suggest that there's little perceptible difference in the driving experience between Cabrio and Coupe. Interested to hear Dan's experience.

(.... After I have found/stolen the 130k it will no doubt cost...)

Am I the only one that thinks it looks scarcely any different from the previous model?
I'm sure it would be more noticable in the real world, especially if you were to see the two side by side. Certainly, the differences would be easilly spotted if you were an owner of the old one and its replacement. The roofline is far lower and more 'coupe-like' and the hump almost unnoticable.Mitch2.0 said:
Son, we live in a world that has open tops, and those open tops have to be guarded by roofs made of fabric. Who's gonna hate it? You? You, Dan Trent? Porsche have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for the cabriolet, and you curse the coupe. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what Porsche know. That a 911 with a hard top, while tragic, probably saves money. And a Targa’s existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves money. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want that hard top, you need that hard top. We use words like rigidity, weight, handling. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent under a roof. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who likes a roof that rises and falls under a blanket of fabric, and then questions the manner in which it’s provided. I would rather you just said ‘I’ll take a coupe’, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick a GT3, and go to the ‘Ring. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think about 911 cabriolets!
Nice workDoes 'Code Red' work in the PH office?

This one isn't 'ours'; we don't get it for a few weeks.
And, FWIW, I think my personal problem stems from the loss of the C-pillar. Without it the 911 shape - previously at least - just doesn't work to my eyes. But the speedster-ish look of the 991 just about carries it I think.
To be continued...
I agree, it has lifted the Cab into the gorgeous looks category. And, as with most 911s, you could buy one, enjoy it for 25/30 years then sell it for more than you paid. One of the cheapest forms of motoring going! And, FWIW, I think my personal problem stems from the loss of the C-pillar. Without it the 911 shape - previously at least - just doesn't work to my eyes. Well Done, Very Good!...I've got a bit of hero worship going on with the 911 so love all it incarnations, I need to be a bit more discerning I think!....

Sir, we salute you!
Must have made for some funny initial reactions: "Who is this plonker, and shall we just ban him?"

That's brilliant, well done you sir. Oh and the 991 cab, looks lovely.
Dan, any connection to Bingley other than looking for a random place-name in God's county? Having been born and raised there it's very mention made me all sentimental. Given half a chance I'd emmigrate back to Yorkshire in a flash...
Have to agree that the 991 cab is the best effort at lopping the roof off a 911 yet. I'm still not a fan of open top motoring though. It plays havoc with my syrup.
