Dan, any connection to Bingley other than looking for a random place-name in God's county? Having been born and raised there it's very mention made me all sentimental. Given half a chance I'd emmigrate back to Yorkshire in a flash...
Did used to live there in fact, so not entirely random! Beckfoot Grammar for a couple of years, for my sins. Must return to the Brown Cow sometime for old time's sake. That and race down Altar Lane at breakneck speed on my mountain bike!

I have been fortunate to have owned numerous 911s down the years, including a wonderful 996 GT3 RS. All but two have been coupes, but to be honest the most fun I have had has been in the two soft tops. The 3.2 Cab used to leak and steam up but with the roof down that flat six just howled mmmm. For the last 5 years I have driven a 996 Turbo Cab and it is by a massive margin the most enjoyable 911 I have ever owned. It rides and handles beautifully, its relatively economical, and when the sun shines and I am stuck in traffic, well I sun bathe and do not get stressed! To my eyes it is also a stunning looking car with the roof down. Still everyone to their own. A coupe will obviously handle better but it is only apparent when pushing the car near its limit and so for me at least it is no big deal. Oh and I agree with a previous post which suggested that the new 991 Cab really doesnt look that different to the previous incarnation.

YES!!! Comfortably the funniest thing I've read on Pistonheads:

Son, we live in a world that has open tops, and those open tops have to be guarded by roofs made of fabric. Who's gonna hate it? You? You, Dan Trent? Porsche have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for the cabriolet, and you curse the coupe. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what Porsche know. That a 911 with a hard top, while tragic, probably saves money. And a Targa’s existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves money. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want that hard top, you need that hard top. We use words like rigidity, weight, handling. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent under a roof. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who likes a roof that rises and falls under a blanket of fabric, and then questions the manner in which it’s provided. I would rather you just said ‘I’ll take a coupe’, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick a GT3, and go to the ‘Ring. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think about 911 cabriolets!
Lovely prosaic film references.

I was a Bingley Grammar lad myself. Last time I was up there I noticed they'd flattened Beckfoot Grammar! With you 100% on the Altar Lane descent, especially as "The Cow" awaits you at the bottom....

Is there a car in those black images that look like there should be pictures there? *smacks monitor*
I thought it was just me and was off to buy a new monitor - ta you saved me a few quid

I'm warming to 911's - Domsters efforts to brainwash me over the last 10 years is obviously finally now working - a spirited drive following behind a 911 turbo the other day on a PH run did the rest I think.....

However it's a big "No" to the soft top version - sorry

The 991 Cab is gorgeous. So gorgeous in fact that it's going to be my 1st 911 after having 2 Boxsters. I don't like the plastic air vents in the new Boxster (look cheap). And as there are too many white cars about I'm having Guards. And PDK. Happy days.
