Hi guys,

I've been living in Australia for 2 years now and I'm finally in a position to buy a new car. The amount of red tape to get residency has been tedious beyond belief despite being married to an Australian and having 2 children who were both born here.

I've got 2 kids under 3 so need plenty of space for the car seats. My wife likes a big car and to be honest I don't mind them as the family car. I ran a Jeep SRT8 in Dubai for 2 years and absolutely loved it. Such a shame the new shape has lost the aggression of the previous model.

Anyway, I'm looking at the new ML63, X5M and the RRS. I'd love to include the Cayenne Turbo but the price is plain bonkers here, more than 50% more than any of the other 3.

Thoughts on the best one?

the new price on a new model ml63 amg is £83000 before options ive just worked the spec i want and it comes to nearly £95000 and thats with not to many options the most expensive is the ppack at £6160 which i would want.if the new ml is as good as the old 1 then it should be a beast.they just seem to lose a shed load of money new.i would go with go with the ml63.

The only good thing about the Australian car market is that prices do hold quite steady, so when it came time to sell, the residual shouldn't be too bad.

Just can't quite get my head around the new rear of the ML.

Try and get to drive them if you can. I went though the same sort of decision a couple of years ago and found they all felt very diferent to drive. Ended up with the RRS, which has been a good all round car so far. Mind you, now I don't have to carry around such a large pram I'm looking at RS4's wink

Yeah, will definitely want to try all 3.

I had an RS4 in DXB as well as the SRT8 and it was an awesome car but back passenger room is non existent if you have the drivers seat a reasonable way back.

X5M (or ML63). Forget the RRS.
Due to the taxes on luxury goods and imports in Australia, supply and demand has meant that residuals on either of these SUVs should be (comparatively) okay!

I posted a similar question about 9 months ago in the Merc and the BMW section. I received a few very definite positives from thr Merc section and nothing from the BMW fraternity. Tested both and loved the sheer presence of the ML and its sound. Go for the ML IMHO!

Seems ML is a popular choice here!

Will report back once test driven all 3.

Proper off-road capability required = RRS.

On-road only?

Whichever you prefer to drive.
