Ok, so my G/F's car is not long for the world it seems. Things are going wrong with it left, right and centre and to top it all shes forgotten to MOT it and its up. So she wants to take her car off the road and put mine on (still has valid MOT and Tax atm) so she can fix it and put it back on the road although one of the reasons I took mine off was to get fixed (CV boot on front NS as well as the CAT needs to be changed...thats not all but thats whats really stopping it from being driven)

Anyway, this morning she's decided to cancel her insurance and take out insurance under MY name and her as a named driver which shes paying for. I said I don't mind but the CAT and CV need to be done and also asked if she'd protected my no-claims discount...she hadn't.

So she's bought insurance under MY name for MY car for HER to drive and didn't bother asking if I wanted MY NCP protected. She can't seem o understand why I'm angry, she said "I have 9 years no claims, so its fine, right?"....I don't think she realised that since it's under my name it's my NCP thats in danger of being lost in the event of an accident.

Is it me or is this a seriously bad thing to do?

Well it's only a bad thing if you have a fault accident, as you don't know when an accident will occur I would say it's probably wise to Protect them.

Depends on marital status, age and if they have told the insurer she is the main user and they have noted it.

OP describes her as girlfriend and she's done it without his permission. What else has she neglected to do ?

I will drive the car if its on the road, she is in the situation where she doesn't need a car day in & day out but will need use of one every so often.

What buged me is that she's done something under my name without making sure it was what I needed, so the resultis I might lose something I've invested years in attaining.

Sorry missed that.

Her age and what the insurers have been told would depend on whether it's fronting or not.
