attention grabbers
Discussion
I have had many very nice cars over the last few years including TVR's, Porsches and my latest toys is a Lotus Esprit Turbo. Its a 1988 sprayed bright orange with a later s4 bodykit. Never before have I been stopped so many times, every day someone pulls up next to me and tells me how great the car is. I get waved at by strangers and last Friday I was asked out for a drink by a gorgeous blonde filling her car up next to me at the petrol station! Whilst I am used to getting looked at, this type of attention is unheard of -despite the fact its one of the cheapest supercars I have ever owned (about 10k).
I also have a concourse 911 carrera that never gets looked twice at! I thought that would be the attention grabber.
Anyone else get attention like this in a car they never expected?

Don't see the issue if you play it right ...
well everyone is different and I am lucky enough to not have the need. Everyone has to play to their advantage!Delorean's look amazing! Did I see it somewhere that the Delorean factory is now making them in electic? what a waste! bet they wont hit 88 anymore but at least it solves the missing person issues!

I never implied you'd struggle without the car I just think you should smash her hard for being greedyDelorean's look amazing! Did I see it somewhere that the Delorean factory is now making them in electic? what a waste! bet they wont hit 88 anymore but at least it solves the missing person issues!
Not sure why you should be surprised. That is a fantastic looking car. I'm sure someone will come along and knock you for some reason or other as that is the PH way but in my eyes it's a great looking car in a fabulous colour.
None of my cars are what I'd consider to be expensive cars but they are less than common and I too get similar comments on a regular basis. Approaches such as he one from the blonde lady are probably ones she would like to make but the car makes you stand out and makes you more approachable because of it. In wildlife it's a bit like an animal drawing attention to itself saying "I'm available".
I'm not sure whether you are or not but the problem is that anything that stands out like your car does give that outward impression. I say problem because even if you want to give that impression, I'm sure here will be days you wont want to get into convversation with someone but they think it's OK to do so.
Enjoy the car, smile nicely and thank people for nice comments, get ready for the occasional bit of abuse from the lower forms of life with who we share this planet.

I know its a gorgeous car- thats why i bought it but......
My previous cars include a custom TVR S1 in chameleon paint with a cosworth engine, A custom 406 coupe in spectraflair, as stated above a Pearlescent White 911 in pristine condition. None of these even come close to the attention I get in the Lotus. I expect some attention but just not the levels I am receiving lol

It's a gorgeous car, no doubt about it.
On a slightly less exotic note, I never had any trouble pulling when I had a Celica. It could be of course that the girls thought I was a hairdresser and I'd do their trusses for free. But as soon as I got rid of it for more sensible transport, my sex appeal seemed to vanish. As soon as I got rid of the Mondeo suddenly I was like Hugh Hefner again. Maybe its just a Mondeo thing.
Anyway, say what you will about fickle women, but in my experience a nice car helps no end.

To the average non car nut, an S1 TVR looks like a kit car and 911s are ten a penny (most don't know what a special model is). That's different, it's British, it's eye catching.
Mind you, we rarely manage to park without someone coming up to ask and enthuse about our grey VW van so you never know really!
