Pug has 95,000 miles!! Imagine a 205 bodyshell after 950,000 - you could bend the a-pillars by hand!
No change from new then!

hehe
A friend of mine once had the windscreen nicked out of her 205. At the time I thought the thieves were very careful as the rest of the car was completely unblemished, but perhaps it just wasn't very hard to get out....

Love the collection, but would want roll cages in those Frenchies before venturing on any rural road. I'd love a 2CV, but only a long way from all other cars moving faster than 15 mph. 90's Merc Cab is lovely, but not as nice as all that space chez Harris to keep this fleet - good work.

My old M5 and Landcruiser 80 keep worming their way deeper under my skin at the same time as they prise more money out of my wallet.

Makes me realise that buying a second maybe isn't so mental after all. I'm in the dilemma of wanting something newer and comfier but not wanting to sell my current car. Must find some car storage for rent... Cheers thumbup

I learnt to do drive in my Mums AX GT and it was an awesome little car (how I didn't kill myself I don't know). I've been looking out for one but trying to find one that hasn't got a Saxo engine in it or other Chav add ons is hard

Tell me chris why the xs over a gti?

Not that I disagree with your choice I used to own a base model 205 and i'd be happy to own another.
And why passat if you have 2012 merc?! smile
Chris, out of interest, do you spanner? I assume not since you said a few sit a while and take a bill to get going. I am sure it would be most useful if you did!

OCD-just like me and there are thousands out there like us.I call it my scrap yard although I love each and every one of them.
I flog Welding gas as a bit of a hobby and you would be shocked at how many others collect gas from me and I end up talking car collections.

My only criticism would be the Porsche..on finance = Cardinal sin and extortionate waste of depreciation and Interest. There are just so many cars out there that would give the same for so much less!

How to keep a 205 going ? Anyone know of any specialists in Hampshire / the South ?

http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/peugeot_205_xs#!t... shows 266 XS's currently registered (if I read the site correctly), and about 2000 GTi's.

No need for specialists all parts are still attainable from good autofactors and any decent garage would have no problem working on the simple mechanics or do it yourself!

I guess you're right, they're not complex things :-) Still would be nice if there was someone who really knew about them but any competant garage should be able to handle one. Now ... is it worth ploughing more money into it or not ...

I loved my 205 xs, I had it in 2001 for a couple of years before I got my 205 gti.

I nearly bought an xs that was going for £500 a few months ago for the daily work run as my fiat coupe was getting thirsty with the new mods.

Strangely, the 'stand-out' car for me amongst that little lot is >

1997 Mercedes E320 Sportline Cabriolet. 90,000 miles. Standard car.

So 'new money' and 'up with the Jones's' at the time, now so 'old money', 'uber-cool' and symptomatic of a sadly now bygone age of 'total Merc over-engineering'. Love It.

I get similar rumblings about the XK8 (coupe or cabriolet, but ideally the latter) for much the same reasons. Managed to resist so far. Thank Heavens.

They say a picture paints a thousand words ...........
