Not much more punch for the additional weight 80 kgs more from memory
Keys to XS are: better throttle response, nicer steering, less grip, softer ride, stealth looks, gorgeous gearchange. Driven well, can stay with 1.6 GTi.

A phase 1 106 Rallye should be added to that duo of french handling feel.

New suspension and steering racks all round and then a sublime handling group test.

Totally agree - also easy to ruin an XS/GT/Lacoste with larger (heavier) alloys too - tried some GTi alloys on mine and promptly removed them again and went back to steels and trims biggrin

top collection love the old range rover they are just brilliant things to bumble about in!!!

the Merc family wagon as-well i think is a brilliant looking car have always wanted a big merc however they do look very low which leads me to worry about driving down lumpy lanes and the ensuing scrapes from the bottom.

Chuck a 205 Rallye into the mix they are also a proper joy to drive - unfortunately I've never owned one

85bhp from the TU3 engine in the XS was the best front/rear weight balance IMHO from a lightweight engine in a lightweight body. Once the heavier XU 1.6 and 1.9 engine was used in the GTI it wasn't as fluid. I drove many miles in both and the XS was a little slower but had keener turn in and more feel.

The bodies were for the time surprisingly strong which gave a good framework on which to attach the chassis. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said for the AX which had more plastic components.

And thanks for giving me ammunition to show the Mrs that I am NOT the only one who can see the logic in keeping several cars at once despite not having the funds or space. rolleyes

Wow - that must be close to a combined collection of "30 Liters" of engine you've amassed! I remmember a thread running on the TVR section a few years back when anyone with over 10 liters of combined engine were considered lucky (I made it with a 350SL, 280 TVR, and 4.0 Range Rover), Nowadays if you have over 2 litres on the driveway you're considered anti-social by the green brigade.

30 Litres.......I doff my cap to you sir!

Why have you got both the 205 XS and the AX GT? The engine is the same and they've got a very similar chassis. Are they really that different?

I had 2 AX GT's and miss them dearly (well, I miss the 2nd one. The first was a proper shed...). So much fun.

As I said earlier I had a Citroen Visa GTI with 115bhp. Better handling that Pug 1.6GTI mainly due to better rear suspension. I also believe that it might have been a tad lighter.

I wouldn't imagine that the GT3 RS 4.0 will be in the garage for too much longer - the appeal of a hefty profit for spending on more cars will surely be to much to resist? I know what I'd do......
I noticed the 4.0s are very, very high in value now, but how can you make a profit if the car has been financed?

Do you sell the car, and pay the finance off later? My thought was you had to pay the finance off if you were to sell.

If so, then the RS has been well worth it smile

Nice little fleet also, love seeing stuff like this on PH smile
