You also need DCPC training now and as a new driver you won't be allowed out on the roads without it.
You will also struggle to get a job too as you will need a minimum of 2 yrs experience at 99.9% of companies.
Something tells me if they sacked all their staff the experience requirement would be relaxed somewhat.

Also the training that is needed could be changed by the Government to prevent inconvinience.

The Government has no control over the training.
It's the EU's baby.
Now we all know the UK government bow down to the EU.

It's highly unlikely the minimum 2yrs would be relaxed,ok so there might be a slight drop in it but no-one new would be going anywhere near. The damage rate would be through the roof, they might juts be lorries but have you seen how much they cost, and the specialist trailers ?

If the 2 years was lowered the cost of fleet insurance would go thru the roof, nothing to do with the government.

Wrong. The company doesn't want to sack their experienced drivers because they don't want drivers with less than 2 years experience either. Inexperienced drivers would cost a fortune on insurance so the company doesn't want to sack these drivers. Battles with Unions are preferable to this alternative scenario.

So for all the bluster about how unions are socialist, its the capitalist system of the insurance industry and labour market which gives them their leveridge at the table.

Seems the sticking point is not enough guarantees being given that the instability in the industry will come to an end; I've got news for you, most industries are like that at the moment FFS!

Maybe not.

To be honest it would make a mockery of Unite even attending the arbitration talks if every deal that was brokered between Acas, Unite and the Oil companies was then rejected by Unite as soon as they left the room.

On a related note, the drivers complained about Health and Safety. Interesting to see on the news a driver standing on the tank with a pipe pissing fuel into the trailer. And he's got a pair of tatty trainers on. Steel Toe caps in future I would hope. biggrin

Probably about £2.73 judging by their performance in the recent past...hehe
