I'd hate to do that many miles in a 205, respect to him for doing it though. Sad thing is it'll probably end up getting broken for parts anyway.

That's the 205? Autonomy was talking about the Audi.

But you're right. It's almost never the engine, it's just a massive bill for a number of faults that usually end a cars life.
But if someone can do a bit of spannering themselves then nothings out of bounds. I follow a guy on youtube who fixes old Ferraris on his drive, usually for peanuts with the occasional big bill that probably equals the cost of a cam belt service at a main dealer for something like a Passat. It's pretty interesting to follow.
To be fair a lot of garage bills are labour, I can imaging Ferrari dealers charging 200 quid an hour. Its all just nuts and bolts, be it a 355 or a 205

Land Rover charge £200, I bet Ferrari is more than that really.

Ferrari are actually pretty reasonable. Probably helps with free servicing and a decent warranty on them but McLaren are far worse.

Wanted £250+vat to do the tracking on the 570S.

Is that a full 3d type alignment? If so its not a total rip off. You'd be looking £150 odd on any other car.

Exactly, the principles are the same and most importantly they haven't changed for 100 odd years.

Yep, not that bad. Probably less than a rear tyre id imagine. If you think that's a rip off then you probably shouldn't bother having a Mclaren.

It is compared to what Ferrari/Lamborghini charge us.

I wish we didn't have a McLaren but hey ho!

The Carrera GT thread quotes £1000 for a four wheel alignment.

Also, agreed that this Peugeot wins the thread!

£1,000 on a Carrera GT is expensive however porsches are harder to do as they have more adjustments but £1k is a bit high.

Not super high mileage, but I'm tempted to buy this Range Rover.

Fairly normal useage, apart from the 2 years doing 60k miles a year!

Youre not wrong.
Garage I use for my cheap trade cars repair anything from a focus to a bentley/porshe/ferrari.
None of the guys there have been trained on anything specific bar one who was bmw trained but everything gets fixed no matter what it is, nothing gets turned away and it's £50ph straight.
Like you say it's all just nuts and bolts... just different quality nuts and bolts..

I have a different experience. My Merc is seen too by a Merc specialist and a good one, at that. He diagnoses faults based on years of experience with the marque and it saves money spent on trial and error. Spend once, for proper money and continue enjoying the vehicle. The odd-jobbers, whilst capable, probably have their fair share of hits and misses.

MOT history suggests it was a taxi - 335k.

Looks like it's been well maintained, but it's a brave punt

Has anyone purchased from carswith no res? I guess it is no different to buying from an auction itself. There is never any mention of the mechanical defects or anything else etc. This wouldnt be a problem if they were down the road but im 2 hours away from them so bit of a fker if you drove all that way.
I almost did. Bought a 300c needing an MOT. They promised to get it through for £250. Once they got the list of failures back and a quote of close to 2k from the garage they use to do the work they politely told me they couldn't go through with the deal.

3 year old Peugeot on 170k, seems good going. Not had it's first MOT yet, so might end up with a haircut.

Edit - Actually 2 and half years old!

Will be worth watching the future MOT history of that.

Advert also states "no longer available".

Looks in great nick. Must have been non stop airport runs rather than the Fri/Sat night puke brigade....
