I’m guessing the mileometer will be stuck at 999,999 on that rather than rolling around?

This did nearly 90k in one year and has never even had an advisory;

259,000 mile E Class

Am I mad to be considering this for my 20k a year commute?
Not at all - my 210k mile E Class just trundles along. And I’d say that 90k in a year shows it’s always running with a warm engine and won’t have been thrashed.

Cars nowadays can do huge mileages
Looks decent for the money that.
Concurred.

It was 2 years on the mot history, was not mot'd in 2015 but looks tidy.

The only way a car like that makes sense is if you buy it and run it only spending money on essential mechanical items - pissing a grand away on an interior isn’t ever going to be worth it.

It is very cheap and is probably worth a go if it runs and drives alright!

I did a little looking as I remember it from when it was for sale first time around. It was owned by head of used cars there. He took it all over Europe, only ever serviced at Sytner Nottingham.
That's a shame.

My 2007 C220cdi is about to click over 250k. The only current issues are the air con doesn’t work and the parking sensors are erratic. Engine still strong and gearbox smooth, and it’s not exactly serviced like a treasured garage queen, just oil / filters / fix MOT advisories annually.

I’m a fan of high mileage Mercs, great value cars in the U.K.

They are notorious for the inlet manifold cracking when they get to around 10 years old.

Absolute pig of a job to do, proper 8 hour job if you know what you are doing.

If testing them, hit the gas hard going up hill and see if it goes into limp mode.

The seal leaks on the valve where you fill it, 50p repair if it is that.

I had someone look at it. He reckoned the leak was corrosion’s of the pipes from the condenser.. priced me for a new condenser (reasonable) but the pipe work was a Merc part (not reasonable). For £700 ish all in I’ve decided to just live without and crack the window down when required #shedlife

It was the boss's car, but they still wouldn't have removed the drain plug to empty the coolant.

Love these guys. Honest jokers to be honest.

Bought a 2004 mondeo off them in 2010, it was actually alright and a bargain at the time - 2 grand or so. It's since on nearly 300k miles and has been all round the world, literally. Did the Perth-Sydney in it a couple of years ago, all in the name of charity these days but still have it!

A glance over the MOT history suggests that scrapping it is the best thing one could do.

Corrosion to sills and rear underbody +others reported for the past 3 MOTs.

It's scrap.

Yes, it's a strange business model. I've put serious bids on in the past and been outbid, only for it to be re-listed again the next day. A cursory look at the ended listing shows sometimes cars are auctioned repeatedly for months.
