And the fuel bill is still only about 40% of the cost of the depreciation.

White Merc diesel that has averaged 45k per year.

£5.5k seems strong money for the miles to me though.

For some reason the seller has changed the number plate in one of the images (changing the 'U' to an 'N')

But in the garage pic you can clearly see it's N608UPK

MOT history doesn't look that bad but only begins in 2006 which is odd.

Also - it's suspiciously rust free for the age and mileage.

2006 is when the MOT result was computerised and logged centrally, wasn't it?

I thought it was earlier than that - but you are right I think.

Ex girlfriends dad was advised against getting an 'unreliable Discovery 3' back in '08 to replace a catastrophically unreliable X5 he'd got rid of. Did about 180k in four years with no major issues. Replaced it with a Disco 4 in 2012 (which as of last summer when I passed him in traffic he still has) was fast approaching 200k by the time we split up in 2015. Aside from a few electrical issues that were sorted under warranty he'd not had any serious issues with that either. I'd be interested to know what sort of mileage it has on it now, although not sure the ex would appreciate me getting in touch just to find out...

He'd have them serviced every 10k miles regardless which I think goes a long way to longevity, but I think going above the manufacturers servicing schedule and using quality/OEM parts also helped.

Unfortunately the Disco 3 is well into 'cheap' territory now and the 4 is heading that way. Only takes one owner to bodge a repair or run it on a shoe string and it'll just be an unreliable money pit.

How on earth did you get 63mpg? Even the diesel diehards on the Jaguar forums claim low 50s at best. The most I got out of that car was high 40s, my Supercharged XJ got high 30s on the return trip.
Cruise control solid at 53 to nurse the dying diff home. It was an indicated 63mpg when the highest speed I drove at was 58mph. I'm prouder of the indicated 53 I got out of my 53 plate 212k S320 though biggrin

If you remember the number plate you could always do an MOT history check.

What, you mean you can remember the registration plates of all your ex’s family cars and as such can’t check it on the MoT history site? Weirdo. hehe

318k miles. Doesn’t seem that high for year but look at MOT. Some years it did 2-3k miles. Other years smashing out 40k+ miles

That interior, especially the steering wheel, looks a bit bleak...

Who would buy this??? surely if it was a private individual that new that he/she would be doing monster miles they would buy a diesel and have some luxuries, that's probably one of the lowest specd car BMW have ever sold in recent times.

I sort of did something similar. Got a boggo spec, petrol Octavia for a short commute, was only 15 minutes a day. Things went well quickly, ended up in a different job role that involved business travel. Started doing 35-45k a year travelling all over.

Didn’t see the financial sense in the depreciation. Car was reliable and i was all of a sudden so busy I didn’t want the faff of changing, so ran it into the ground for 4 years. Was going to be going even longer but I crashed it and wrote it off. hehe

520d with 323k km (200k miles) in 2.5 years. Given you should have been staying at home for a year of that....

€25k feels a bit strong
