Presumably this mileage is shared among a couple of drivers (or more..?) I'm just curious about the logistics that keep a vehicles' wheels turning almost continuously.
Yes you are right its not the same driver as the other poster said they would be shagged .!
We have vans on day work all over the UK Europe and a night time run between Exeter and Heathrow

So a van could be running all day and It could do 400 miles and return in time for the night shift . Driver 2 will do the Heathrow run and that van has doe 800 miles in 24 hours ! While it might stun most it is no big deal to me as it has been my life for 30 years ! .

I have been doing a regular trip myself lately between Bodmin and Harrow and that is 600 miles in a day (not every day !) and I think nothing of doing that in fact I love every minute of it . !

I could get in a van this afternoon and drive it to straight Athens with very little stopping . Its what I do and what Im used to .I am very lucky to be in the business I enjoy . I have driven over 3 million miles !
I’ve never driven as my job but think nothing of jumping in my car with a trailer and driving from Inverness to London and back to pickup a car. Round trip over 1200 miles and 24+ hours with maybe 3 stops for food/toilet total (1 at the end while collecting the car).

I just enjoy driving and find it easy to pass time.
You're the Northern (Scottish) version of me. biggrin

I'm in Kent and would think nothing of picking a car up from Glasgow/Aberdeen etc. If anything I get disappointed when a perfect car comes up and it's in London/South East, rather than up North somewhere. biggrin

There's the road trip element I love, especially the planning and outbound journey - I love travelling as cheaply as possible - £10 National Express fare to the airport instead of a £60 taxi, plane or train to Glasgow for £30, EasyHotel for £22, and the next morning just going for a 5-10 mile walk to pick the car up. I always get security checked at airports because my backpack will amongst other things, contain a tyre pressure gauge, jumpstart pack and cordless tyre inflator!

Even for a commercial vehicle, this is going some. 2019 V Class. 1m km in 3 years. That's about 200k miles per year!!!

That's been in a full on crash.

I'd assumed the crash damage pictures where some 'before' shots but they actually want €19k for a million km van with one side missing.

That is some drive. Love it.

It's also worthy of note, that if you're travelling predominantly on motorways on the continent, it can be a lot easier to cover the distances than it is in the UK.

What do you generally listen to whilst driving, Jeremy? I love a long drive; not sure I could do it every day but there's actually something quite satisfying about "right, let's go clock off 500 miles".

I misss long distance driving. Not quite to the level some people here are, but I used to frequently do Paris, Rennes, Frankfurt or Stuttgart to Newcastle upon Tyne, and I really enjoyed it. I now spend an hour a day doing 13 miles and it is far less enjoyable.
I've done a lot of long trips, longest was from Cortina in Italy up to Calais through Austria and Germany in one go, only stopping briefly for food, fuel and the loo. Also did LA up to Santa Cruz up the West Coast of California a couple of years ago, and more recently at home Lancashire up to Fort William (and back a few days later) in one go. When I tell people they always seem to say the same thing, 'that must have been boring', or 'that sounds like hell'. Complete opposite for me! Glad I'm not the only one!

Work used to be a good opportunity for long drives pre-covid, but I've been working more locally since so it's rare work journeys last any more than an hour or so now between sites. My faithful Transit ticked over 180k miles last week, determined to get it to 200k by the end of the year!

Back in the day we started with Tolbert Express vans they were basic with a radio that picked up 4 stations near a large town ! but I could fix those vans myself and lo and behold the camper boys and girls are still running the motorhome versions today so they must have been good !

Vans are good now with air con and that fancy hifi stat nav telly in the middle of the dash so you can stream anything you want from Itunes
Normally I listen to LBC to hear people moaning about brexit and not being able to afford the electric but I listen to a lot of sports podcast and many of you on here if you dont already know about it would like Jake Humprys High Performance podcast !

I didn't, but with longer journeys opening up again I'll definitely look this up. I spend ages looking for an audio book/comedy for a road trip that I sometimes listen to 20 minutes of and don't like. Then spend the rest of the day changing stations to avoid dull tunes and advert breaks.

LBC makes me want take off my seatbelt and drive into a wall rofl

That's a fair reflection of what gentle driving will achieve, 80k on discs and tyres is impressive. If you factor in the work that manufacturers are doing to improve the energy efficiency of specific eco-centric tyres, the difference, should all commercial vehicles move to them, would be significant.

I can imagine gentle driving over those distance, with MPG in mind, would lead to some very impressive consumption figures too.

Not for sale but high mileage, stopped counting at 999999km, 5 year old Suzuki taxi, didn't look or feel any different to a new car

2019 transit custom with 198k miles.

They are a comfy drive on the motorway so it’s not a bad place to spend the time. My 2014 custom has only got 56k miles.

There’s something special about picking up an unknown car from the other end of the country then driving it home. Also being in a car that’s got none of your stuff in it.

I’ve bought a few cars from around London (I live near Aberdeen) because the transport links are good and there’s a lot more choice.
I don’t really get to do big trips so much now so a proper long drive feels like an event.

What’s the service intervals on those? The ad says it has a “full main dealer” history, yet I can’t think the intervals are every 30k…!

I believe it is yearly or 20k intervals, a place I used to work ran a fleet of these and that was we used to do and I am sure that Ford recommended that.

I think it is 30k on the newer Euro 6 ones.... Older ones were 20k. But the new ones can monitor the quality of the oil and throw up a warning light to let you know it needs changing........ I'd rather stick with 10k oil changes myself!

Having said that, this one looks remarkably clean!

Some vans have crazy service intervals - I had a 2016 Citroen Relay for a while that was 2 years/30k.

To be fair, it sounds like it’s being doing some serious motorway mileage, which is about the best and lowest stress place to be for a Euro 4/5/6 diesel with a DPF, so 30k intervals and condition based variable servicing doesn’t seem such a stretch.

It did waver at points from 30k plus between services to around 10k, though!

That reminds me I need to buy one of these. Spent months scouring eBay but got a bit fleeced because the one I bought isn't even cordless. So annoying having to plug it into the fag lighter.
