I always plan to keep my cars until they reach stellar mileages, but boredom always seems to get the better of me, with a 200k E34 540i being my highest miler. I had no problem selling it though.

I can't think why you'd pick a base spec 1.6 diesel Jetta to do it in though!
I did 65k a year in a 1.9D Clio RN. Base model, 60hp non-turbo diesel. Literally flat out for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, and being young with a fuel card, most of the weekend was flat out as well.

Recently retired a Mondeo Mk3 130 Tdci after 342,000 miles.

Very little went wrong with it and it's still on most of its original suspension.

Such a situation is a bit of a bugger. Reckon I'll get more for it by selling some parts and scrapping the rest.
Great to know. Makes my 91k just run in. When did you get the cam chain done?

MBH, also- did you have injector failures? How long do Turbos and Flywheels last? Did you wear out a steering box?

I've got 216,000 miles on my 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 and it is prey much like new. It still does 155mph. I've just bought a E300 diesel with 243,000miles on it. Hasn't arrived yet...

Saw this in another thread, worth a mention here even if it is just for the advert:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-80-TDi-Estate-Stars...

Some great stories, glad to see some people are not scared of a big number on the dashboard smile

I love it, favourite bit for some reason is "FUSELAGE:"

My 80 TDi is only on 168k! Think it needs a clutch though so I'm at that point of sell or put more money into it..

Another one not for sale here, but worthy of note.

This article is five years old, it's at over 2.9 million now

I'd love to think my car could last a few hundred thousand miles, it does have a service every 10 thousand. (Effectively just an oil change.)

However, with a turbo, supercharger, dual clutch gear box, I'd be doing OK to get 120k before it becomes BER! (Beyond economical repair.)

This thread is brilliantly compelling - thank you! Bookmarked, in anticipation of more...

(I'll post images of my old 250k 944 some time, too)

And not strictly speaking "for sale" but someone on disco3.co.uk has a 55-plate LR Discovery with 400,335 on the clock!

Full story here - http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic64287.html
Can't see anything on it - but it looks like its ex-Police etc?
Ex highway agency car, was sold off from them at 168k or there about's i beleive.
Think it's on about 447k now but had a major mechanical freshen up to see it through another few years of work, i don't think the work was necessary, more the owner went a bit ott with getting parts fitted.

How about this, 51-plate Golf with 450,000 miles!

http://germancarscene.com/2012/05/28/volkswagen-go...

article said:
Volkswagens, and German cars in general, are well known for eating up the miles in a trouble-free manner, but this Golf definitely needs an honourable mention.

Having retired from his wholesale food delivery business back in 2001, Roy Dyson and his wife Doreen moved from Lancashire to Devon, but knew that that they would be keeping in touch with their friends in the north, so a reliable mode of transport was on their shopping list, and this is it. While visiting his son in Cirencester, Roy came across the silver Mk IV Golf S TDI on sale at Northfield Volkswagen with just 6,021 miles on the clock. That was May 2002, and by December that figure had risen to 30,000 miles. The magical 100,000 mile mark was reached by July 2004, with 250,000 miles appearing just three years later.

Amazingly, the car is still on its original engine, which has never even had its cylinder head removed. In fact, apart from a failed alternator – shortly after the 300,000-mile point – the Golf has never let the Dysons down. Although snowstorms during the harsh winter of 2010, meant that they had to spend the night in it.

Babbacombe Garage Services, Roy’s local service centre, generously gave the Golf a complimentary service at 440,000 miles, and Roy puts regular servicing – plus the replacement of parts as soon as they show any sign of wear – down to his car’s longevity. Roll on, half a million!

Yeah that sounds about right, went through BCA in Dec 07 with 190k on the clock apparently along with another couple of matching ones:

Diesel was around 80p in 2001, and is now around £1.40 a litre, so using a mid point of £1.10, at 50mpg thats £45006 of the black stuff that golfs used!

Insomnia led me to this.
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4005627.htm

just under 20years and 197,000miles. Not spectacular on paper, but still good for a hatchback, and owned by 1 person. This is how to own a car.

Ford Cortina mk3, 412,000 miles! Doubt it's a typo as it also states it in the advert text. Only an average of 10,300 a year though, so guessing it's been a daily driver since new? smile Either way it's in surprisingly good nick!
