Just a hypothetical question. In an ideal world I would have at least 3 cars and even on a low budget could probably afford 3-4 cars that would meet most if not all of my requirements. You may be lucky enough to own 3 or more cars but for various reasons such as the cost of insurance and I expect available parking space at home, many people are restricted to two. What would those two cars be?

Currently out of reach but still realistic one day choice:
Range Rover Evoque Diesel 5dr as the family car (for my wife, although I would probably favour a fast estate such as an RS4 or RS6 Avant - the V8 one as I find the V10 too OTT!)

Porsche 911 (probably just a 993 Carrera 2), E46 M3 CSL (although not sure about the gearbox, so maybe a manual convertible) or an Abarth 500 Essesse (I just like them) for me!

Combination that I could realistically afford now:

Land Rover Freelander 1 td4 for the wife (although a RAV4 would probably be better and cheaper, but a bit too girly!)

A smallish hot hatch for me such as a Fiesta ST, Lupo GTi or Suzuki Swift Sport.

What would your ideal 2 car garage be?

Surely the driving should be after the 997 not the Golf?!

Happy for now with my affordable pair of e46 Alpina B3 3.3 touring and mk1 MX5. Low purchase price and running costs, only bugbear is the B3 is a bit thirsty for daily use, but taking into consideration how cheap it was that's several tanks of fuel smile

S1 Lotus exige as a daily
Ferrari 308 GTS as a fair weather toy.

Unfortunately I've broken them both, so I'm currently driving a van frown

In an ideal world I'd have a FFRR TDV8 VOGUE SE , still under warranty and a Nissan GTR

Sadly finances don't run to either so for the time being it's

BMW E46 320d Touring , good all round family car / dog transport and quite frugal

LEXUS LS400 MkIV Comfortable cruiser , quiet , refined , V8 Performance when needed

If I didn't have to take running costs into account then -

FD2 Mugen RR as the family car
2012 Nissan GTR as a weekend car.

If I did then -

Normal FD2 Civic Type R as a daily (consumables are a lot cheaper when they don't need Mugen written on them).
S2 Exige as the weekend toy.

Love the fact almost everyone would have a Range Rover plus one other. I'm no different,FF RR TDV8 and Phantom if they have to be new,and assuming I can still have my fantasy garage of classics.

Easy this one:

07-09 GT500 heavily modified for racing (including swapping the manual for an auto)
Chevy or Ford Pickup truck of some kind - thinking along the lines of a Raptor SVT

Or being sensible:

06 Mustang GT that I currently have with a steady rate of modification.
Fiat Panda Twin-Air to do the daily stuff in.
