There is a massive advantage, they allow test drives and a long look which is very advantageous on the sort of cars they sell. 5 minutes with an old BMW can be worth thousands. They're on the top BCA rate as well which means you can save money over buying from BCA directly and they can still make a profit!A lot of traders buy off them because the type of cars they sell even experienced auction buyers will not take a punt on.

No, they don't. SoGA is not a "warranty" and it depends on "price paid and nature and circumstances of the sale". Therefore a car knocked out at trade price on ebay does not have the same comeback as one bought at retail. If it had, everyone would be buying on ebay and getting cars fixed for nout. Apologies to OP but can I highjack this thread for a second or two.
Can some one please explain to me how a BCA auction works, im registered on the site and I understand the grading of cars on sale, I would just like to know the process of actually trying to purchase one of their cars. Birmingham is my closest, my other half wants a new fiesta but money is tight so was wondering if she could pick one up cheap from BCA (i understand they have a little body damage)
Also is there really much of a difference in price compared to private sellers/ garages? Where do the cars come from?

I've bought 3 cars from them and they've been awesome. Exactly as the adverts say, they are described very well down to small scratches and it is said that you should knock off £X for the repairs to be made.
You can't compare a car from them and an A1 example from a dealer because they could be thousands difference in price, this just goes back to people being naive.

My ML55 was bought from them as was my previous Allroad and A8, all of which were bought, tiny bit of tlc, run for a while then sold for a profit.
The current car has been my daily for over a year (first time I've kept a car longer than a few months), the rear passenger door didn't open (an hours messing about), a few scratches sorted and a real good clean. Sailed through the MOT and only issue has been a crank sensor (£20). I bought it for £4001.23 and don't expect to lose anything on it even if I keep it another couple of years.

I almost always buy my cars from BCA. Typically the process is to go along on auction day, buy yourself a catalogue and flick through this for what you might be interested in, look at milleage, service history, tax, mot and stand in the auction hall or go out into the yard and look at what you are interested in. Once one of your potential cars comes through into the hall entrance go have a look around the engine bay, listen to the engine etc etc. Bidding will then start and if you win you will have your details taken and go through to the clerks desk and complete paperwork etc.Can some one please explain to me how a BCA auction works, im registered on the site and I understand the grading of cars on sale, I would just like to know the process of actually trying to purchase one of their cars. Be careful though - its very easy to buy a car because you liked it too much and got carried away with bidding, your bid price will also carry an auctioneers fee on top as well as a fee for processing the paperwork if you are a private buyer. Most cars at auction tend to have no tax, bear this in mind for getting it home & an extra payment you will make.
Cars at auction tend to either be tradeins from main dealers/car supermarkets etc or selloffs from fleet & finance

Exactly. They must take a lot of brave pills every morning before hitting the auction ring. I've never actually bought a car from them (have bid on some) but have chatted at the odd auctions and they're seem decent blokes.They've been at it quite a few years now so I say good luck to them.
I bought my Audi A6 from them. Bid on Ebay, bought unseen. Went to collect it and they just gave me the keys and said have a look around the car and take it for a drive, if you find anything wrong we'll give you the deposit back, no problem!

Next weekend I found that, although their ad said all discs and pads had been changed at a cost of £400, the rears had obviously not been changed. I called and told them and they said I could either bring the car back for a full refund, take it to them for the rear brakes to be done or they would give me a refund of £200 (half the claimed replacement cost) and I could get it done myself. I opted for the money and put on some new discs and pads.
