Multi Car Insurance Year 2 - a short tale
Discussion
I have a multi car deal with a a company named after a senior naval officer. I have the 370Z, Pathfinder and Punto on that policy.
When I took the policy out for the first time last year it worked out cheaper than insuring each car individually, and the guys in their contact centres (Swansea and Cardiff) were wonderfully helpful and very personable. All was well with the world.
Renewal notice came through this week for £2100 . Quote is for fully comp, business and pleasure, on all three cars, for me and Mrs HH. Punto is for son #1 to learn in. A huge increase in premium, and given no claims or change in circumstances over the last year, a bit of a shock. Bizarrely, they wanted only £40/year less for a 95hp £4k Punto than for a 330hp £30K Convertible (albeit a purple Datsun ). Disappointing, to say the least, as I really do like dealing with them.
So, to the key-boards, and a bit of 'go-comparing' and googling, etc, and me seeing quotes far more in-line with what I would have expected. Then finally I thought I'd try the multi-car route, with the same company, but posing as a new customer, albeit with an identical risk profile. Quoted £1300.
So I call the ever-so-helpful people up, and pose the obvious question. 10 minutes later with the lovely Welsh Wendy, I have a £1300 charge against my card and insurance is sorted for another year. A saving of £700 for questioning the 'automatic' renewal.
I know I don't need to make the point again - but it really amazed me how much more I could have paid if I hadn't fancied the hassle of a bit of digging.
Be careful out there folks, it's a minefield!

A lot of people are simply after the easy option/a quiet life, so just let it go - esp given the auto renewal payment is opt out rather than opt in in a lot of cases.
Indeed, spoke a to a few (nonPH) friends/family since, and the majority auto-renew 'because it's less hassle' . Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
