A roll of gaffa tape
A bottle of water
Jump leads

TBH the Gaffa tape should fix everything, right?

Is there even a road in such places, the UK has about 90-odd% coverage doesn't it?

You need a hammer as well.
If it moves and it shouldn't: Gaffa tape
If it doesn't and it should: Hammer

Depends on the car!

The MG has a socket set and a jack in it, along with a set of jump leads and a can of tyre weld and a few things like bulbs, relays, fuses, plugs, points and other stuff I can do myself in a matter of minutes.

The Alfa has a can of tyre weld and that's it. The RAC can take care of anything else, although fortunately, touch wood, neither car has been on the back of a wagon for some years....

I don't, but I might start carrying a bottle of whisky.

That's the right type of breakdown, right?

Small tool kit
Torch
Emergency mobile charger
12v jump start kit
Cheap digicam (although thats more for accidents than breakdowns)
Multiple bars of chocolate
Large bottle of coke
2 tubes of pringles
20 fags
6 lighters (you can never find one that works when you need it)
Notepad, pen and business cards

I think that just about covers it

Old Enduro bum-bag with selection of basic tools, tape, cable ties & a rag. Old waterproof unlined jacket to wear or kneel on plus a hi-viz.

All this fit's easily under the spare wheel in the boot with an old magnetic cigarette lighter powered torch.
