Reading the reports of others, it is often a cause of celebration to complete a very long car journey; however today I made what I believe to be my shortest. This was not done out of laziness; it was raining on a Biblical scale and I didn't want to get soaked.

There is a supermarket at the end of our road. The road is about 200 yards long. The total distance, including turning into the car park, can only have been 220 yards making a round trip of about a quarter of a mile.

So what is your shortest journey between two distinct points? Discounting moving a car on a driveway etc.

Well, I drove to the pub this lunchtime. It's about 40m away as the crow flies, and about 100m by road.

It was absolutely tipping it down, and a fine excuse to start up the V8. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it... :-)

About 3.5 meters to get the car off the drive and onto the road in order to get Tiv out of the garage.

Am I doing this right?

When I was at my parents house I had parked too close to the garage and had to get in the car and reverse less than 1/2m so I could open it and raid their beer stash.

From my drive to my neighbours drive 100m up the road.

Usually due to a car needing a jump start or gas canisters being moved.

3 inches.

Got in car and started engine selected drive then remembered it was Sunday and the banks are shut (derbrain) so put it back in park but as its auto and I don't often use the foot operated park brake it rolled forward slightly. Engine off, journey completed.

I pick my Ma up from the Supermarket every Thursday.

The store is on our housing estate.

So from door > supermarket > door is half a mile.

BUT!

As I'm a bit anal about my cars, and my current car being turbocharged - it's not good to start a cold engine with a turbo, and shut it down again 10 minutes later before it's had a chance to get up to running temperature and burn off the moisture inside the motor.

So when I do this shopping run, I actually go for a 10 mile drive before picking her up - hence working the engine enough to get all the fluids hot and avoid a cold shutdown!

Half a mile (Mile round trip of course) picking my sister up from the tube station every now and then, if it's late at night / poor weather.

My shortest journey was completed in three cars, I moved next door, so they all came off one driveway, 7m along the pavement, onto my new driveway!!
