I really doubt it'll have a cult following. If it was as good as they claimed it would be then it might have been in with a shout but given that it's not very good it's going struggle not to be a complete flop. The fact that the new Renaultsport Megane is is better equipped, more practical, much faster but more importantly manages to be a more fun driver's car says it all really. It just goes to show that being light, rwd and having a bespoke chassis doesnt automatically make a car 'better' or more fun despite what the PH 'purists' claim. Also that engine is going to cost a fortune to tune.

Saying that this version looks immense, it's just a shame that the one on sale is so limp.

I'm intrigued by your comments that it's 'not very good'. Are you simply basing that on Evo's review of the car or a title-wide sweep of negative reviews of the car (of which there isn't)?

GT86 gets a much better review in the new EVO - spring rates make a noticeable difference ( as well as manual box )

By my definition (which I couldn't even state categorically myself and certainly bears no resemblance to the origins of the word), the only coupe that BMW currently make is the 6-series.
Do you class the 4-door one as a coupe? Or only the 2-door?

Well true, 30k basic but we all know that you can't just buy basic cause there's hardly any kit in it, so you have to add a few grand to the price.

Plus new 1 Series is just plain ugly. I mean, old one was no beauty but the new one is hideous.

No, I'd call the four-door a saloon.

would you really buy a GT86 for the spec though? Surely it is about enjoyment, or is that all about DAB radios and bum-warmers now?

Yes, I only tend to think of 2/3 door cars as coupes too even though historically, there have been 4-door coupes. The term coupe seems quite loose. The Wikipedia entry is interesting to read

Worth noting that the GT86's that ran in last weekend's Nurburgring 24 hours BOTH won their classes. The V class is pretty much production car spec.

So, a fairly sound endorsement not only of their track abilities but reliability too.
