I used to punt around in a G60 Passat on occasion and that was a pretty decent car - and a heck of a Q-car. In truth I always thought the styling of the Rally to be a bit ham-fisted, especially as the headlights made it look like the US Rabbit (boy could those rust!). Now the G60 Golf on the other hand - that was a lust car for me!

There's one of these parked v near to where I live. Looks to be in good nick - only moves occasionally. Might put a note on his windscreen.

I had one of these a few years back. Absolutely excellent car. I only got rid as I was using it daily and getting parts is very hard, especially panels or parts for the 4 wheel drive system.

These are a classic no doubt.. don't think I've ever seen one on the roads, and you rarely see them even at VW shows these days.

Even better is the Golf G60 Limited.......
Exactly what went through my little brain.
The blue grill stripe says it all.
Personally I don't really like the look of the rallye, especially when they are lowered, they look really stupid lowered for some reason.
The track was also way too narrow.

I love these cars but 0-62 in 8.6? I thought they were quicker than that, the sierra cosworth and lancia integrale were on a another planet! This is more like astra GTE/Escort RS Turbo performance..
As I pointed out earlier in the thread the 0-60 looks pretty tame because the rallye "only" hit 54mph in 2nd gear so requires a change to get to 60.

For reference a few magazines have tested Rallyes over the years and found a stock one will do 0-50mph in 5seconds and 7.1-7.7 seems to be a fairer figure for 60.

I think the the 0-62 is always it bit misleading, prefer my stats as 0-60, on paper it should do it in 8 or under. Its just a shame as it looks so good from outside, but hasnt got the poke to match.. most of the other 80's flashmobiles like Cosworths, Integrale's, E30 M3's, at the time had 911 Baiting speed. This was not quick enough to blow away a well driven normal Golf GTI.

Would love one of these, but it would need a 20v Turbo lump with around 250BHP, that would be sweet!

I really must kick my brother in the nuts and tell him to sort his G60 powered MK1 out.

It's done about 300 miles in the last 2 years.

I've alwayss liked these but I hate the stock wheeels. I don't think they look that good at all, they kind of remind me of some that came on Rovers in the 1980's.

The one with the red interior is drool worthy, any more pics (pref high-res) of it?

Wow, that looks horrendous. It's a real shame so many nice cars have fallen into the hands of these "Dub Boiz" or whatever they call themselves these days.

Not exactly massive fireworks in the performance department, but enough cool and charisma to pull it off any way, when (fairly) standard. A nice slice of nostalgia, but after a failed foray at finding a good MK2 GTi 16V, I won't bother trying for an old Golf to use as a daily.

So... if "G-Lader" is Deutsch for "Supercharger", then what is "Kompressor"? (Genuine question)

I think the lader is the German word for superchager but kompressor is the German for compression which is what a supercharger does to the air inside. A G-ladder is so called because the scrolls inside the charger are G shaped -

I predict that this thread will be bumped every 18 months by someone with a 'dubzyo' related username just so they can say "nice car."

Never driven one, probably never will at those prices. They do seem to fetch quite a lot of cash for a car that isn't all that quick, IMO. But I guess you don't really buy a car like this based on performance alone. Not keen on the standard looks though, a little lower with wheels of a decent offset has them looking infinitely better straight away. Do love the headlamp/grill setup though, makes a normal Mk2 GTi look much wider and lower than it is, which is why I procured one for myself. That one Horney posted with the red interior is bang on the money.

Also, lol at all the stop liking what I don't like comments. Stay grumpy old farts PH, never change.

What other Group A homologation specials were there? Don't know a lot about this topic and would enjoy hearing about them.

Of course because there are so many dubzyo boys on this forum!

Did you also predict that the Honda Integra Type R Hero thread would get bumped after over a year by this:

Just passed one of these today in Warrington; big daft boy racer rear wing, ridiculous decals down the side and a huge, "makes me sound like a V8" exhaust.
Proper street race, clear road, neck and neck at the lights; and then go and I feel a bit of pity and don't just drop the clutch on the off chance that he doesn't want a race.... anyway that annoying screaming vtec wound me right up. I ended up dry bumming him with both turbos.
I only wish I'd properly humiliated him instead of giving him a chance.
Terrible looking, tracksuit bottoms tucked into it's socks wearing, chav mobile piece of poo.

I saw one of these yesterday. They look cool, just always surprises me how slow they are. Be better with a Supercharged VR6 lump under the bonnet.
Won't argue with that, my supercharged VR6 adds a certain something to the MK2.

And it's a G40 or G60 depending on the outlet diameter in mm, iirc. There was a G50 polo that did over 100mpg...
