If you Google yourself (!) and G60 there's a post on the Club GTI forum from 2005 mentioning your old car, they have recently changed the forum I think, as it's now a dead link.

Fantastic cars, my friend has just bought one.

Pretty sure the GTIs had 5 speed boxes before the Rallye, though smile
Yup, I have an 85 1.8 8V Gti Cab....it's 5 speed... They went to 5 with the 1.8

Can it really be called a 'body kit' if the arches and sills are all-steel?

Does that mean that the Lancia Delta Evo has a body kit...of the new RS5?

So... if "G-Lader" is Deutsch for "Supercharger", then what is "Kompressor"? (Genuine question)
I think that is yet another error in the article. The "G" in G-Lader simply references the shape of the compressor -- it looks like a G. It isn't redundant or "doppelt gemoppelt" as the Germans would say. hehe

The actual term is Scrollverdichter (scroll compressor). Hence, Kompressor is also acceptable as far as I know.

Can I just point out the the faux-German A123BCD format registration plates seen on two cars posted in this thread are ILLEGAL. Shame because they look nice, but you can and will get nicked for them.

After owning a fair few golfs I have to say always interested in these. LHD not a great start, weight and not so much power doesn't help, however I love how they look and what they stand for, oh and ps VW obviously knows how to build a rally car these days... Some gorgeous examples on the previous pages most of them ruined by sitting too low !!

Britain never got the Golf Mk2 'country', that really is an off-road Golf.

Just had a look on mobile.de to check out current prices. For complete running cars prices range from €14k for a car with 240,000km on the clock, up to €50k for a minter with less than 20,000km.

Hi folks. As stated above by my sister. 'The' red rallye that was built by Jabbasport is having an overhaul. It has had a full respray, new ecu and loom, gearbox rebuild, new tyres, wheel refurb and lots of other bits. It will now have jetta lights as the rallye ones are prohibitively expensive. And jetta ones look better than the round single lights. The original reason for fitting them was because of the poor quality of the originals output. It will also have completely new suspension as the original coil overs are dead! Below are some pics of the rebuild that is not quite finished.

As stated, it was and is owned by Chris Marr, but my dad unfortunately now has Alzheimers, so the plan is to get it on the road and take him to plenty of shows and track days so he can at least enjoy being in it again. It should be doing the rounds again this summer!!

Just read this thread for the 1st time so I thought I'd share some piccies of the 1 I had years ago.

When it worked I loved it. However it didn't always do that. Needed to replace 5th gear twice & the entire gearbox once. It also managed to ingest part of the G-Lader & melt a piston.

It was noticably faster to 60 than the 8v Gti Mk2 it replaced & the 1 I was forced to buy as a temporary replacement whilst waiting for the G60 to be repaired. Also much faster around corners.

So I have had one of these Rallye Golf's since 1996.

Its actually a genuine UK dealer supplied car, one of very very few I think.

Will never be selling it and I have had a fair few offers for it over my 20 years or so of ownership.

I have only driven it about 15,000 miles since 1996, mainly due to not being able to afford to do so in the early years (I was 21 when I got it) and now I have a few other cars that are better suited for my needs shall we say......having said that its always in the back of my mind and I got it up and running in 2013, with a pretty extensive mechanical overhaul including a rebuilt and uprated G Lader (Supercharger)

The Wolf of Wolfsburg (although they were built at VW Motorsport based in Belgium, rather than in Wolfsburg, Germany iirc)

Totally random selection of photos during the latter years of my ownership, with no attempt to glamorise it whatsoever (I hope to do an owners thread for it shortly)

Oh and VW Motorsport created and homologated it, so it could do this smile :
