Dear **customer number 000004 of 0000010**,
I would once again like to thank you for being one of the first people to help ease our cashflow issues, and to join us on this embarrassing journey as an under developed sports car manufacturer. As an early 12C owner, I would like to inform you of a few fixes for some major issues we've discovered which I'll dress up to sound exciting and beneficial.
As a company that plays hugely on it's racing success to try and distract from the fact we misjudged our vehicle attributes, we are continuously having to fix shortcomings with our cars. Being the owner of one of our prototypes, I would strongly suggest you have the following fixes which we will be applying to actual production cars later this year. To make it sound like this is exciting and beneficial, I will say you're getting this for free.
The power output of your 12C will increase by 25PS to a value which is distractingly class leading. Our development team has re-engineered the mapping of the 12C engine to give you the performance and driveability it should have had in the first place. I will now distract you further with some blurb about CO2 emissions and unacheivable MPG figures.
In addition, we will add a number of features to your car that we had planned to put on, but due to various system stability issues with the early prototypes, couldn't. These are all the usual things we would have discovered anyway had that pesky bank manager not 'forced' us to sell prototypes to the public! Your retailer will be able to give you a full rundown of the marketing blurb we have come up with to hide this.
In order to further make it sound like you're part of the 'the team' and getting something for nothing, we also plan to include the much delayed, and frequently promised update to your IRIS system. Yes. You really will get it this time.
Both (and by both I mean all 50 updates, but 50 sounds really bad so I decided that 'both' in this context actualy means 2 lots of 25) will be available at some point towards the end of this year. I'll say October 2012 now, because it makes it sound like I know when it'll be, when in reality it probably won't all be done by then. Your retail representive (also known as a salesman in the rest of the world) will not be in contact shortly to discuss in less detail.
Thanks again for helping to fund the first few prototypes.

It does seem like a bit of a song and dance about things, given that it sounds like a Windows Service Pack upgrade, with some extra power chucked in to sweeten the deal! Electronic updates are often given out free by car manufacturers, it's just that they're carried out by the dealer during servicing without a fuss, so this sounds more like a bit of PR guff than anything else. Still, at least they're doing it and those original owners who still actually have their cars, will apprecaite the letter from Woking.
Slightly O/T... I see that with advertised prices now dipping into the £160Ks, the bubble has burst on these cars. That didn't last long. I'm no fan of the 458, but it's interesting that you still need £180K to get a 2010 RHD car.

The McLaren looked plain boring, I almost gazed straight passed it with it parked either side to to 02 plate ford focus and a Toyota Corolla. Says a lot.
That is one of the attractions of the Mclaren for me. If you get it in a dark colour it's not shouty like the Ferrari (which is a truly awful piece of car design imo). I bet the Mclaren ages better too. When I first saw the 458 in a showroom I thought it was stunning , but I think the Mclaren just looks classier and more pure of form , to me now the 458 looks too bling.
Still , everyone`s different and contrary to standard PH forum philosophy I will not cry for you to be burned as a witch because we differ in opinon , although you are still wrong obviously.

Brilliant job here of doing what we Brits do better than anyone else in the world which is putting ourselves down.
No doubt you spent all weekend saying what a waste of time and money the Jubilee celebrations were also.
Seeing as you're not going to be buying a quality British built McLaren anytime soon this will leave you free to buy a nice German sports car (which will probably have an engine failure) or a super Italian made sports car (which might catch fire).
Good luck with that.

Absolutely agree with this! I do wish the PH community would respect each other's opinions on like / dislikes rather than argueing and insiting that there is only one right answer all the time minor niggles.....what like catching fire. When the copied Ferrari they should have missed that feature out.
I head that one owner who got his car for free threw the keys back and told them to take this pile of junk away!
We had one at work a few days ago...looks nice enought, if a bit short on character.

Translated as - As an early purchaser of a 12C, we consider you part of our testing and development team, and have delivered you product in order for you to find all the problems for us.
I had three brand new TVR's, Nuff said! I am still a fan, just lost interest by all the failures i had to endure. Quirks for a new model i can deal with; its how the maker handles the problems. Big thumbs up to Mclaren, customer do matter!
I would buy one, just dont have the cash
Would be in Orange, just in case they want a donate one for CITP use
It's just a way of dressing up "you have found problems with [insert a very complex product/software here], that had we tested it completely, we would have found, but are now putting them right, and making it look as though we are doing you a favour".
