just driven down the lane to my house, a wide road with ample room for two cars to pass without slowing. no pavement though. just followed a disco3 down there at exactly the same speed - circa 50mph. the group of walkers didnt have a problem with mr disco but ive never seen such animated gestures directed at me. the difference? my 993 is a bit loud and obviously looks a lot faster than a disco! for a split second i thought of stopping to discuss this with but to be honest, whats the point!

Thats the way people are now, probably put you in the same sort of bracket as Ian Huntley, your not in a st eurobox, how dare you, kids in africa are starving while you drive your porker around, do you realise how much food that petrol would buy, the thing is, this country is becoming very anti car, at least socialy anyway, im just suprised they didnt slag off the dirty great 4x4 you were following.

Don't expect to find much sympathy here, seems like a lot of PHers don't like loud cars anymore, what with the advent of DUB and it's "stealth" and "Quiet is the new loud" thesis.

EDIT: I'm an unapologetic loud car fan, I have an unsilenced exhaust on mine. I don't VTEC through built up areas though, and always make a quick getaway if I have to drive along my street at night. Once the NSL signs are gone, it's pops and bangs and screaming away at 8000rpm!

I get this in my car and have seen people shouting at various others before. It is annoying and does come from clueless people who genuinely think loud=speed.

Someone drove past me and a group of vague friends the other day in a fiat coupe, clearly in low gear and barely doing 20mph (best guess) in a 30. Guy next to me moaned that he was going way too fast (or words to that effect) because his massive exhaust was making a lot of noise. I told him off for being a tit and to my surprise my girlfriend backed me up (by telling him I knew what I was talking about as I also drove a stupid noisy sports car biggrin)

I once had an pensioner lady walk over and comment on the racket my Capri 280 was making when I was parked at the lights outside a cafe. "Wow, that sounds very nice" was her (accurate) assessment!

Bikers get a bad press for loud cans but due to the engines that cant be "quiet".

The op should've flicked them the V

I had this a few years back

Coming out of a small village 30 zone I see a group of women pushing 2 prams on the road around the apex of a blind corner on an NSL lane.

I would suggest I afforded them more courtesy than I would a horse in the same situation...30mph max and gave them as wide a berth as possible

They went absolutely fking mental. Jumping up and down, hand waving, shouting, pointing at babies etc

Loud is good, What is wrong with people? I honestly want to make the bimmer louder but not sure if I could live with the constant drone on motorway journeys.

They should make the most of loud cars they can hear coming whilst they can. When lecy cars become common pedestrians are going to be being mown down left right and centre !! ;-)

I had a horse go mental and wave its hooves around at me as I drove past in the Indy. There's only so far you can coast before you have to gently feather the throttle again and it really doesn't do quiet.

Surely the fact that it annoys old people is part of the reason that you drive a loud car?!

I measured the db level of my Lingenfelter Z06 the other day... 95db @ idle inside the car and 102db @ idle, measured ~1 metre from the rear at exhaust level. If anyone shouts at me, at least I can't hear them!

Not necessarily irresponsable. I have a bike and when I pass a horse or other forms of live stock, I am considerate to the extent of once having to kill the bike engine and coast. Neither my car or bike have mods but what I can say is that the area where some family lives, loud = fast and it is not always the case. It is a state of mind. I can understand the people to a degree as before I have been riding a horse that was spooked by a passing loud vehicle and I got thrown to the floor in the field parallel to the lane and the GF horse almost crushing my chest. If it was not for the GF and her horse handling skills I could have been in serious trouble.

Then on the other hand, yesterday coming back front he shops there was a little MX5 in front and it looked bad, paint was back street quality and the exhaust was tinny to say the least. The chap driving it set off from the lights and giving it the beans and passing some young lads. Their reply was a visual coffee shaker action, MX5 soon stopped showing off.
