I feel dirty for asking this but has anyone seen the boot size of the new ST?
Does your current one have a full sized spare? Because I've noticed some have a big spare and a small boot others a small spare and a deeper boot.
My ST3 had no spare just a can of tyre weld, as did every other one i looked at. Perhaps this changed with the facelift?
If you want more boot space just take out the polystyrene surround for the compact spare wheel and get a compressor/ tyre weld kit smile
Like i just said, my ST3 came with no spare and nowhere to put a spare. Just a can of tyreweld.

No ST has a spare, the floor is flat and the exhaust is directly below it smile

I must have a rubber ring option fitted in mine then, maybe it's part of a "waterpark pack" or something smile

You could spec an option from new that was a space saver with a foam surround to lift the boot floor so that it is level.

Ford also do a similar foam surround for the Mk3 Mondeo so that you can replace the space saver for a full size spare, which is what I did.

Exactly, as there isnt room for the spare wheel well & the twin exhaust backbox.

As I dont realy carry anything in the boot, I just have an full size 18" ST alloy in there as my spare, along with a jack etc...

As I've already said and others have too, yes, you could spec a space saver spare with the ST - it bolts to the middle of the boot floor and has foam inserts that go around it. Then a flat, carpeted cover goes on top of it, creating a raised boot floor, the same level as the actual boot aperture.

This is correct.

The Non ST/RS models have a deep boot floor. The ST has a shallower boot floor due to the exhaust (about half way between the standard focus and opening)and the optional spare which i had (tyre weld means you cant plug the tyre) means the boot floor becomes level with the bottom of the tailgate opening.

I really wanted to like this car but to be honest its nothing amazing and i would have prefered to keep my MK2 facelift over it. Aside from petrol and tax savings (which would get gobbled up by depreciation) I can see no improvements at all. The old car was cheaper, better looking, better sounding, had more character whilst being more subtle and was faster for very little outlay (whilst retaining warranty).

Nice one! What sort of finance are they offering? Any 50/50 or low APR options?

10 for the idea.
5 for the execution.

The new Focus looks Korean in design and even in this ST form, looks a bit weak-kneed, especially for a Fast Ford. I wouldn't be buying it for the looks, that's for sure but the price is good.

It amuses me when people use "looks Korean" as an insult. To my eye, some of the best looking mainstream cars are Korean these days (not that that's saying a great deal).

Info your after:

The new ST is available on Ford's low rate finance, so 4.9% APR on 2 year Options or 7.9% on 3 year Options and Acquire.

Ford Credit have announced their residual values for the new ST. These are based on 5 door ST's at 2 years old doing 9000 miles per year. They are also guaranteed MINIMUM future values, and ideally Ford Credit would like to see you with some equity in the car at the end of the term, so that you are more likely to buy another new one.

ST1 £11,299
ST2 £12,070
ST3 £13,097

Talk to Tarnock Ford if you're in the South West.

I make that 50% depreciation in two years, which is pretty appalling.

Good man, many thanks! I may have been let down on another car I have on order (Mini Countryman, largely for the attraction of their 50/50 finance) so I'll bear this in mind.

I wasn't using it as an insult though you clearly perceive it as one.
The Koreans tend to use more weird design cues like those blobby rear lights. Granted, the Koreans are now beginning to copy German styling - now that really is an insult. wink

Err... sound symposer? Please tell me it isn't noise through the speakers a la F10 M5??
Have you driven or been in a new m5? if so do you think the noise sounds fake? I have been in one, not driving sadly, but it sounds fab to me and you wouldn't know otherwise unless told. I couldn't care less how the car makes its noise as long as it sounds good & am in full favour of them. This ford one is sounds great. Its a pity all cars don't have them e.g. 911 turbo as you cant really hear the engine at all - just a whoosh of air from turbos etc
Maybe I'm getting old, but this kind of thing:

"While the sound tube concept has been used on Mustang in the past, the sound symposer used in Focus ST is unique because of its electronically controlled valve that opens and closes based on driver inputs – engine speed, accelerator pedal position and gear selection. In lower gears, the valve is mapped more aggressively, while in higher gears the effect is dialed back to enable quieter cruising. This isn’t possible with conventional, passive sound tubes. Part of the reason Ford made these changes is that on Focus ST, for the first time, the symposer is attached directly to the intake manifold (as opposed to between the manifold and air intake)."

Really, really stops me being at all interested in new cars. An electronic map to control the engine noise? Not interested. I hate fakery.

Fair enough. smile

To me "looks Korean" would be a complement these days. "Looks German" would be about the greatest insult possible. biggrin

When the MK2 FRS launched I looked around one in my local ford dealer, they had a 3 year finance deal that gave the MGFV as c£10k (I don't remember the exact number). Which was 66% over 3 years.

So I have just sat in the new Focus ST and it is a lot more spacious then the old one and sounds like a 1.8 golf when you put your foot down.
Interior is good but the leather/fabric seats are ok’ish. It does look very good in the Yellow!!
You can comfortably fit 2 fully grown 6 foot men in the back with ease. The centre console is nice but the dash is far too cheap IMHO.
Still a good car for the price tag.
