Seller goes back on sale

Put down a deposit on a perfectly modded Lupo Gti. Was really looking forward to picking it up this weekend and the seller informs me he doesn't want to sell the car.

he has offered me my deposit back and one hour with his wife.

Not happy.

Am I liable to compensation for loss of earnings and the emotional trauma through disappointment that will be forthcoming.....?
